co-worker within hospital

ok, I applied for a job in the anestesia dept. at the hospital, as of now I work on the med/surge 7 floor, well I was notified that I got the job and I am so excited here is the thing a women who works in transport said to me are you Melissa, the one who got the position and I replied yes and she said well they wanted me to apply and I declined so good luck because they are very mean, in that dept. why do people say things like this I just replied well I judge people for myself. how would you have handled this situation, and honestly her commet makes me wonder if I am making the right move.

1st thing I thought of is, she did apply and didn't get the job and is now bitter.

Honestly, if she's the type of person that would approach you with comments like that, i think she's the type of person who would have that opinion no matter what unit she's on. Don't let her innate pissy-ness take away from something that could be a great move for you. You know how the hospital is- no unit is without it's negatives, but it's what you make of it. Don't give any thought to her comments- because if you do, you're going to go in there looking for things to go wrong and then any little thing that happens will validate that- which is doing yourself such a huge disservice.

My unit was ridiculous (tele)- but whenever we had a new nurse and they asked me my opinion, i'd tell them it had it's pros and cons and leave it at that (though, if people are considering going into nursing and ask me what it's like- i try to tell them all aspects- good and bad- so they can consider what they may be taking on). I take issue with people who feel the need to make it a point to tell you that you're going to be miserable- it makes them questionable, imo.

I agree with the other posters. Also keep in mind that all people handle stress and people in general differently.

What bothers her, may totally roll of you and other peoples shoulders.

I would totally go in with an open mind knowing that ANY place of employment is going to have it's share of internal problems.
