Okay another question, breast pumps...
Which brand for hopefully double pumping electric breast pump would you recommend. I keep finding mixed reviews and I really don't want to mess this one up. Please share your suggestions!

Everyone I've spoken to told me to go with Medala. I'm registering for the freestyle (it's pretty expensive) so I can bring the pump with me once I get back to work.

From experience you should use a madela or rent a hospital grade pump. I you do now you run the risk of ruining your milk supply. This happen to me. My lactation consultant informed me of why this happens if the pump is not strong enough it will not stimulate your milk supply.

Re: Okay another question, breast pumps...
well I'm still pregnant, so I haven't given birth yet. I'm just looking to see what I should register for. Thanks. I had put the Madela on my BabiesRus Registry, I was just hoping a cheaper one would be just as effective. But better not take the chances. Thanks!

I got the Medela Freestyle - ive heard through friends how great it is.
Have you checked with your insurance to see if they'll cover it? I got mine through the ins and only had a $23 copay.

I didn't know insurance would cover that. I'll have to check it out. Thanks!

No problem. I went through EdgePark - insurance company stated it had to be through a medical supply co and this is who they recommeneded.
Heres the website - you can even call them and have them check with your insurance

Everyone I know used the Medela and loved it!
I'm not going to buy one though, until I know if LO is going to latch. The baby has to EBF the first few weeks anyway (I think)..
Pumps are not returnable at all, I know people who got a $400 breast pump and their baby wouldn't latch-so they got stuck with this expensive gadget they ended up giving away to someone.

Re: Okay another question, breast pumps...
Well wouldn't you just put the breast milk in a bottle to feed the baby if he or she doesn't latch to the breast? I want to put spare milk in the freezer so my husband and mother can feed the baby when I"m at work or gods forbid, I get some sleep.

That's what I would think-but 2 of my friends literally could not produce milk...they had a really tough time.

Fair enough. I'm starting to produce right now and I want to encourage that. But you have a good point. Sorry just trying to figure all this out.

If you buy a pump at BRU, you can return it unopened within 45 days of purchase.
I got a pump towards the very end of my pregnancy. That way, if BFing didn't work out, I had enough time to return it. I did need to pump right away and was really glad I had already purchased the pump. DH was able to sterilize the parts while I was in the hospital and I could use it as soon as I got home.
I really liked my Medela PISA, but I've also heard great things about the Medela Freestyle.

Re: Okay another question, breast pumps...
First have you checked your insurance? I found a link on this site and called my insurance and I am getting a Medela Freestyle with no Out of Pocket expense to me since I already met my deductible this year.
Of course that means that I recommend the Medela. There are a couple different ones. I like the Freestyle b/c I homeschool my twins and I like that if I need to I can hook the freestyle up, throw on a big sweatshirt and pump while I teach!
Good luck.
