4 month appt and teething HELL!!

I took julianna to her 4 month appt. this past saturday and the Dr. just confirmed what I already thought... she is teething. Her gums are swollen on the bottom right side. She always has her fists in her mouth and cries and gets frustrated!! I feel like during the day though its NOTHING compared to night time.

She was SUCH a good sleeper. She would sleep 9-7, sometimes longer!! THe past 2 nights she wakes up literally EVERY hour sometimes 2X in an hour. The thing is when I go to her crib, she has her eyes FULLY CLOSED she is just going "ehhhe, ehhh" (like complaining). I just tried the baby oragel for the 1st time last night... yea I dont think it worksChat Icon Maybe Im too quick to judge it but I put it on her gums at 4am and she only slept till 5:30 without the whining in her sleep again.

What else should I try? I though I would have at least another 2 months before dealing with this, lol. ANy remedies would really be appreciatedChat Icon

we got 2 teeth at 4 months also. We used the baby orajel on DD's gums and the cold teethers. Good thing is once they break through should be back to normal sleeping. Just a ton of drool. invest in a stock pile of drool bibs.Chat Icon

DD is teething too, have you tried any teething rings? DD loves her Sophie and is always gnawing away on it. I have a few teethers that look like pacifiers that she likes too.

I really don't like the oragel and am hoping to avoid using it, but Iwill never say never b/c so far she has been STTN

Although I haven't gone through this yet (dreading it) I found this awesome teether online. It is by Vulli (the same brand as Sophie the Giraffe) and it is a vanilla flavored teether. It can be chilled as well. I feel like maybe the flavor can distract a little. I also got this thing from BabiesRUS that you can put a piece of frozen fruit in and baby can chew on it. It is 6 months plus though.GOOD LUCK!
Here is a good article too:

Re: 4 month appt and teething HELL!!

Tylenol (or Motrin if you ped allows it before 6 months- mine does) really helps too.
And be warned- the tooth may not show up for a while.
My DD started wtih this around 3-4 months and she STILL has no teeth at 6 months.
But on the up side- the really bad crankiness/teething hell only lasts for a few days at a time- it comes and goes...

ITA with this. My son started teething around 3-4 months as well and his first one cut through at 8 months! His pain would come and go in waves too. We did cold teethers, or wet a washcloth and stick it in the freezer- that was a favorite!! When it got really bad, we gave him Tylenol. Ask your ped what they recommend, many will tell you that baby orajel is not safe, and can actually prolong the teething process.

ETA: If she is only complaining in her sleep, but not waking up, I would leave her. Unless she gets really upset and is wide awake, it's such a great opportunity for her to learn to self-soothe!

OMG you're living my life!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter is 17 weeks and was sleeping 7-8 sometimes 12 hr stretches and the last 3-4 nights it's been like every hour!!! I'm terrified of her forming a bad habit!!! I tried tylenol 1 night and it did nothing.... Her appt isn't until next monday but I'm assuming it's teething. Good luck! Let me know how you do!!! Oh no! Do you know why they are against the baby orajel? My ped. did not suggest anything!!Chat Icon When she does complain, I just went in a popped the pacifier in her mouth and patted her side for like 1 minute. Sometimes she would go back to sleep for an hour and sometimes 5 mins. later she was back to the "ehh ehh ehhh". I would let her try to put herself back to sleep but it just gets louder and louder if I dont go in there. Also we have a railroad style apt. (the rooms go into eachother, not boxed rooms) so we hear everything and we cant sleep! ayy, this is gonna be a long couple of months lol. thank god you guys said it comes and goes!! Geez, just when were getting out of the newborn phase and STTN, we start teething...Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: 4 month appt and teething HELL!!

DS started to teeth around 2 months. It was miserable. At night, I gave him Tylenol. And I used Hylands Teething Gel. Not baby Orajel. It can numb their throats and cause them to choke on their saliva. I tried it once and DS choked and turned purple. Threw it out. Also if she takes a binky, I use to put a few in the fridge and then gave them to DS. Also put teething rings in the fridge and hold them for her to chew on. I found the best thing that worked was cutting up grapes and putting them in a mesh feeder and then put them in the freezer. He would go to town on it...DS was a little over 6 months when he finally cut his first tooth...

Sorry...Didn't mean to scare you. A lot of people use it with no problems. But my son had an issue. I buy the Hylands teething gel in Target. In the baby section....It seemed to help....Good luck...It will get better....
