Internal job interview
I referred a friend I used to work with in another dept to one of the managers that reports to my boss for a job.
She works in another building which is business casual and came right from her office in the middle of the day to interview and then had to go back.
She was dressed appropriately for her job not in a suit, not dressed as she would have for an external interview.
I heard some whispering about it from none other than my wonderful co-worker to her boss.
I thought for a moment about it and realized her logistical and time constraints in getting to the interview along with the fact that they moved her time up by one hour just a short time before.
The first interview internally in my firm is confidential so she did not tell her boss yet that she is looking.
Ok, that's the secnario..I think it was ok..understandable given the constraints and circumstances but I may be biased.
I know that she is chained to her desk for the most part during the day and even being able to get out in the middle of the day was quite challenging. She had no choice but to work that day and couldn't take off.
I think she's a very good fit for this manager and my department. He liked her and wanted to pursue it further. He dresses in jeans almost everyday so I didn't think it's so bad.
Am I biased?

Re: Internal job interview
I think as long as the manager interviewing her is aware of her current position and location (knowing that it's business casual) then it's fine, and you're not that biased.
However, she could have thrown on a suit jacket if she really wanted to make a good (better) impression. That's what I do

yeah, I was thinking about it. Personally I would have changed in the bathroom but we moved her time up by one hour and it was hard enough for her to get there for the original time without it looking funny.
Well lets see what happens.

Re: Internal job interview
I don't think your being biased - I would feel the same as you did.
Some people (like your coworker) just want to nitpick, it sounds like.

Re: Internal job interview
they know i'm trying to bring in people from the other part of the firm that I work well with.
If she gets the job and the other person I worked with get the other job we have then we will be a force. We all worked well together and you would think they would want that but it's becoming high school. I've never seen anything like it.
Wish me luck tomorrow. I need to remain professional and keep my concentration on my job.
I've never felt so insecure at this firm as I do now. It's so not like me. 7 years..I need to get the people that are not in my camp out of my head.

yes. can you believe it?
and her boss just loves her. There is no sense around here anymore.
She was in a sweater set and pants. Now she is not a beauty queen or anything and wears no makeup so maybe she had an issue with it.

Re: Internal job interview
I completely agree with you. As an employer, I'd understand no one is going to walk in decked out for a full interview for an internal interview.

Re: Internal job interview
When I interviewed to move within my agency, I just dressed up for work that day. I used to wear jeans every day for work so I made sure to dress better that day. Not full suit, but nicer than normal.
