Does you LO fall asleep on their own? My DD is 4 mos old and rarely of ever falls asleep w/o being walked or nursed.

Re: Moms of 4-6 mo olds...sleeping ??
yes, but i have an exceptional sleeper.
he has always taken his last bottle in his rocker and then i put him down immediately afterwards - awake but drowsy. he goes right to sleep (maybe takes 5 mins). He has a lovey, that helps him.
im not so sure this is the norm

Yes, DD has gone right to sleep on her own since she was about 8 weeks. I didn't do anything special to help her figure it out. I think some babies are just good sleepers while others aren't.

6 months here - he just goes right down whenever...he was born just knowing when he goes in his crib to go to sleep, it's weird. My others sons were nursed to sleep till 9 months.

DD is almost 5m
I put her down after her last bottle and she falls asleep on her own 99% of the time. Some nights, she gets cranky (like last night) and I have to rock her for about 5 minutes tops.

Re: Moms of 4-6 mo olds...sleeping ??
At 6 months we realized he really needed to fall asleep on his own, that was about two weeks ago. Since we've been doing that, he sleeps like a log at night and doesn't wake up all the way when he inevitably wakes in the middle of the night. He can actually soothe himself. He cried a bit the first few nights, but we stayed strong and now it's not problem. I got him a crib toy that turns on when he cries and I gave him a teething teddy bear and those things helped him learn to soothe himself.

during the day, nap time is almost non-existent. only way he'll sleep is in the swing.
at night, if we catch him at sleepy but not overtired he'll fall asleep on his own with the soother on and his blanket to hug.
If he's overtired, then we give him the pacifier and sit with him in the armchair until he dozes off and then transfer him to his crib.

It used to be I would nurse him to sleep then put him in his crib but now I nurse him and put him in his crib drowsy.

I had to do CIO bc the only thing DS wanted to do was be rocked, I couldnt do it anymore. I had to knock the rocking off. So i did CIO. He still whines for about 10 mins every night in his crib before falling asleep.

How did you do it? Just letting him CIO? It's not really a super problem - and for the most part she sleeps good at night - I just want naps to be a little more independent!

What kind of crib toy did you get?
We had to do something similar with DS. He was getting up every 2 hours and it was killing me. So I would put him down drowsy and when he would wake in the middle of the night I would wait 3 minutes before going to him, never picked him up just gave him the paci and a back rub. Once he quieted down I would leave and if he started up again I would waited 5 minutes longer before going to sooth him. It has worked wonders for us. Yes he still gets up once at night but I will take that in place of the every 2 flippin hours he was doing before.
We have the Precious Planets projection crib mobile and I turn that on when he starts to fuss. It has a remote. Its been great in helping him sooth himself.

Re: Moms of 4-6 mo olds...sleeping ??
Please. She won't fall asleep without a bottle in her mouth. Period. I have given up. I have to chose my battles. If it means no sleep for me or trying to stop that habit I'll chose sleep. I know it's bad but I'm sorry- I can't take not sleeping anymore. I tried one night and she screamed BLOODY MURDER for an hour. AN HOUR. This child will not break. But I will. I'll do whatever it takes- if it means standing on my head I'll do it. If it means running naked through my neighborhood- I'll do it. Desperate times for desperate measures.

For naps and bedtime, yes. Unfortunately, she cannot (or will not) soothe herself back to sleep in the middle of the night.

Re: Moms of 4-6 mo olds...sleeping ??
DD is almost 4 months old and 95% of the time falls asleep on her own. we put her down drowsy, but not tired and she usually rolls right to her side and sleeps. The other 5% of the time she's usually over-tired <we missed the window of sleepiness> and we have to rock her or use a paci to get her to sleep before putting her in the crib...
