Re: Laparoscopy
My doctor mentioned that it was something I might need done. We are meeting with her next week to discuss. I'm not really sure why she thinks I might need it.
ETA- do you know how it's different than an HSG? I had one of these and my tubes aren't blocked.

Re: Laparoscopy
The lap wasn't too bad. I was back to normal within a week. The worst part is the gas they pump into you that takes forever to leave your body. It seemed to settle near my lungs so I did deep breathing a few times a day which helped a lot.

Re: Laparoscopy
HSG is just where they shoot the dye. It's different than the lap. The lap is laparascopic surgery. They usually do it to unblock tubes, determine if you have endometriosis and remove it or remove cysts.

ITA. Also, since the lap is surgery you are put out (anesthesia) and it can take anywhere from a day to a couple days to feel back to yourself again. I had a lap to rule out endo. I had mild endo. which my RE scraped, but said it was not the cause of me not getting pregnant. GL!

Re: Laparoscopy
I've heard that they also look and clean out endometriosis with laparoscopy.

Re: Laparoscopy
Thanks everyone for your replies! I understand the difference between HSG and Laparoscopy. I was more confused about what information a Lap would give that a HSG would not. It sounds like endometriosis would be the reason for doing the lap. Girls who had it done, was it painful? I'm usually pretty good with pain but the thought of going under anesthesia is scaring me a little!

This. The lap wasn't horrible. I was home within a couple hours. The worst part is my shoulders felt so sore. I came home and slept and stayed in bed that day. I felt much better the next day. I was glad I did it so we could rule out endo and if it was a problem he could clean it out while in there.

Re: Laparoscopy
I have had 2 done. The first to remove a cyst and moderate endo. The 2nd to remove a cyst, they found no endo. I was very sore after the 1st one, but that was because of the endo and all of the scraping they had to do. The 2nd I was sore, but Advil was enough to make me comfortable. The gas pain is different for everyone, but if they recommend you "clean" your system the day prior to, do it. It helps with the gas and bloat. Good luck.

Re: Laparoscopy
I had it done for endo and a cyst also. I had never had a general anesthetic before but it was fine. I did have pain a couple of days after from the gas that they use to inflate the abdomen. I want to say that I went in at 10 and was home by 4. They gave me percocet in the hospital and the Dr. prescribed vicodin but I didn't use it.

Re: Laparoscopy
I had one done for a cyst and to check for endo. Endo wasn't present, so I didn't have a scraping. I was in pain the first few days from the air they pump in you. I had the worse pain near my shoulder blade and in my rids. The incisions were sore for about 2 days. Good Luck!!!
