Yes, you probably are!Chat Icon

I am actually really pizzed that we can't take the kids out today because my son's snow boots leak! We discovered it yesterday and I am really really mad at Stide Rite. They have always been my go to brand for most of my kids' shoes and I am very disappointed with them over this!!!

We also haven't had the chance to buy the sled which have been asking about since last /year. Hopefuly, this is not the last snow of the season!Chat Icon

At 6 years old, YES, let her go out there!
My DS will be 4 soon and has been out in every snow we've had.
We just came in again! He LOVES it!
It didn't last to long, but, he really loves being out there.
He has a bit of a cold too and I told DH Im taking him out for the fresh air to help him!

Re: Am I the only mom who doesn't let her kids play in the snow?!?

WOW! My DS is 4 months and I plan to bundle him up in his snow suit and take him out for a few minutes to get some great "first snow" shots. I don't see any harm!

I can't imagine not allowing a 6 yr. old out!!! When I taught kindergarten I used to take the kids outside for a few minutes. We would all bundle up and stand on the black top for a few minutes. We would use our five senses to describe what the snow was like. They would get SOOOO excited! We wouldn't be out longer than 5 minutes bc I am obviously not their parents and can't make that choice. However, they all couldn't wait to get home and REALLY play. It is an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives. Please put your crazy mama feelings aside (we all get them for something) and let her go!!!

DD is 6 and has never played in the snow!! I just can't bring myself to allow her outside to "play" in the snow b/c I always fear that she will end up sick!!!

I do bring in snow in a bucket and let her play in the bathroom sink and when she was younger she played w/ it in her high chair.

She keeps asking and I say no! Am I the only one???Chat Icon

You arent the only one. But not because I'm afraid she will get sick. I have always HATED the snow. Even as a kid I couldnt stand it. DD1 is 5 and I let her go out one time last year purely to take some pics.
We had a wonderful time today playing games, watching television (and watching daddy shovel Chat Icon Chat Icon )
Maybe if it wasnt so windy today I might have let her go out when DH was shoveling.....

I do sometimes. For me, it is more of a hassle for 10 mins outside.

why would your DC get sick in the snow? and even if she does, she'll get better (unless she has a serious health issue and you are just afraid...) DD is getting over a bad cold -had a cold a week ago- and I took her out today, just for 10 min, it was windy and freezing, but I bundled her up, leggings, shirt, sweater, snow pants (jumpsuit), hat, scarf, gloves and a jacket... she had sooo much fun and was so happy, just to see her face was all worth it even though my face was totally freezing, lol.

Re: Am I the only mom who doesn't let her kids play in the snow?!?

I loved playing in the snow as a child & I took DD (15 months) out today for the 1st time & she cried but I got a good few pics.....hopefully over time she will like it b/c I love the snow so I want to play with her in it.

I hope u did end up taking her out today. Do u think all of these parents would let their kids out in the snow to play if it was bad for them? I think her becoming sick is your worry & I agree with everyone that the fresh air is good

You are not the only oneChat Icon

My DD is 11. She prolly went out into the snow a handful of times before the age of 9(like 7-10 times) I wasn't scared that she'd get sick, I was afraid she would get cold and not be able to communicate that to me. Or maybe to hot, and get overheated cause I bundled her up to much.

Now that she's older, I gladly let her out..She loves the snow. And I'm not so afraid she will be to cold or hot.

I agree, I really don't think it is is the end of the world and she is still young.

My DS is 4.5 and has only been out twice. He keeps asking but as soon as I take him out he really doesn't like it neither does my DD.

Maybe try and see what she thinks.

God!! Some people are so rude!! This makes you sad that she hasn't been outside in the freezing cold to play in the snow??

Playing in the snow is not all it's cracked up to be. I hate it and always have!

I have no great memories playing outside in the snow. I have better memories playing in the sand and poolChat Icon

I think if you get her a really good snow suit and keep her warm and let her play in the snow, when she comes in and is still basically warm and dry... you will realize its not as bad as you think. Chat Icon

i think people think its sad mostly because her DD asks to go out and she says no. i think her DD is old enough to try to make her own memories. just trying cant hurt. if it turns out she doesnt like it, then she can make memories by the sand and pool. Chat Icon

Re: Am I the only mom who doesn't let her kids play in the snow?!?

Ultimately, you are the mother, and you have to do what you feel is best.

However, snow and cold will not make DD sick. Germs do.

If you are at all okay with it, I see no harm. I used to love going out in the snow and then taking a warm bath, getting into warm PJs and then drinking cocoa.

I am planning on taking my 9 month old DD out in the snow later on, for photo ops if nothing more! I put her by the door yesterday to look at the snow.

Thanks for your sympathy Chat Icon Chat Icon

I didn't think the reaction would be so harsh, but apparently people really love playing in the snow!!!

Believe me, it's not like we are on lockdown when it snows, she's been out just never head on in the snow...until yesterday!!! I did let her go out, bundled from head to toe, an of course she love it!!!!!
