Installing a Chandelier

Is this something my husband (who is not Mr. Fix-It, but does ok for himself) could handle, or am I better off hiring someone? The fixture is in place but just has a bare bulb at the moment, and I am planning on getting a chandelier with a pretty long chain, as it will go over the dining table and its on a cathedral ceiling.

Also, anyone have any recommendation for good places to look? I know lighting can be $$$, I'm looking for quality but don't want to spend millions.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Installing a Chandelier

If the ceiling fixture is designed to handle the weight, it's a fairly easy process. The chandelier is designed to hang from the box in the ceiling (once you take off the existing bulb holder).
When we get a chandelier for our dining room, I plan on doing it entirely on my own, and just letting DW see it after it's up. I may get her input on how high to hang it.

What's nice about a chandelier with a chain is that you can support all the weight of the chandelier on something (another ladder, or have a person help), so you're just hanging the chain, which only weighs a few ounces. Once the chain is mounted, then you can let the chandelier down.

My DH is not a handy at all but he was able to hang our chandelier without any problem at all. I wasn't even home when he did it.
