Did anyone transition their child to a toddler bed at 19 months? Especially one who doesn't like their crib?
Ugh - DD#2 is 19.5 months. She has been trying for a few weeks but today has climbed 2 times out of it at nap time. DD#1 didn't climb out until she was 3 1/4 so I'm so not prepared for this.
My issue is she is very attached to me and while she goes down okay at night (with some resistance) but she does go down- but she does NOT want to nap in her crib - she has also been fighting naps the past 2 weeks and is going down later and later. She gets hysterical usually when we put her in there for naps so I'm worried about what she will do if it isn't a crib and she has the freedom to climb in and out. So I put her in today and she threw out all her dolls then threw her leg up and climbed over. Luckily. I was standing there so I caught her but she got completely over the railing.
I know if I transition her to a toddler bed she will never stay in her bed again.
Has anyone every tried it at this age with a child who doesn't like to be in their crib and had success? She still wakes 1-3 times a week around 3 am.

My daughter was 18 months when we transitioned her to a bed. She hated the crib and wanted nothing to do with it for naps or bed. She was waking up all night long. When we put her in the bed, she went to bed and I didn't hear from her till the morning. At bedtime, I would sit in a chair next to her bed initially and I slowely moved the chair away from her bed night by night until I was outside the door. She didn't even try to get out of the bed at night. Since then, if she needed me, she would call me, I'd go to her, and she would go right back to sleep.

My sons went in at 20 month smoothly. It was very easy, they love their beds. I only did it because they had a sibling coming.

See this sounds like DD. She LOVES her sisters bed but likes to jump around in it so I'm not sure if she will actually lay down and stay in it. I have had all sorts of sleep issues with this one. She doesn't transition at all (if she falls asleep in the car or my arms you can't move her or she wakes up and doesn't go back down - so it is my arms, the stroller OR the crib - but you can't move her once she is out).

My niece was 14 months and went to a full sized bed with railings. She hated her crib and always ended up in bed with my sister and BIL. She loved her bed and they never had any issues.

My DD was 18 mths, she hated her crib. Would wake up at night, not go back to sleep, had to be held to sleep etc. We chose to go straight to a twin bed bc the rails were the same price of the twin and we were concerned since her crib converted to the toddler bed, it would remind her of the crib and wouldnt change anything.
Putting her in a bed was the best thing we ever did. She slept 10-12 hours straight from that night on (unless she was sick) and takes all her naps like clockwork. The only thing, is shes still very attached to me, so i lay with her while she falls asleep, which only takes about 20 mins so i dont mind.

DD loved her crib...but because of things happening she was switched into a twin bed (very very low to the ground with a rail) at 20m. she transitioned fine...as far as i know...honestly i wasnt around for the first 2 weeks of this change but my parents didnt seem to have a problem at all with her.

IDK but my dd is 14 months and hated her crib too!! I say all the time that I just know she would sttn if she was in her own bed. We will probably try it sooner rather than later but I am a little worried bc she is still so little!
For the girls that did it earlier - did you have a low bed? Did they ever try to climb out?

20m here
She thought it was a whole new bed. I did it because it was easier for us. She goes to sleep anywhere then we put her in bed. Sometimes its the livingroom other times its the car, etc. Bending down into the crib was waking her up and annoying EVERY ONE. I didn't like how high the crib mattress was when I made it into its "toddler bed" so I bought one. MUCH lower and I'm much happier (altho we do still find her on the floor - like this morning).
I made sure to buy new sheets, etc of Tinkerbell (her fav at the time) and made HUGE production out of it. She never even missed her crib.

Same here.
He preferred the bed because he was used to being in ours. He hated the crib.
I did a modified CIO without the crying. I said I'd come back in a minute that I had to potty. Then I'd wait 5 minutes & peek in. If he was awake, I'd lie down again. Later on, I'd try to creep out of his bed & if he woke up, I'd say I was going to check on Daddy & I'd be right back. I'd wait 20 minutes, peek in.
Yeah it was nuts. But eventually he was so comfortable in his bed & so sure I was coming back, he'd fall asleep waiting for me to come back.

Re: Did anyone transition their child to a toddler bed at 19 months? Especially one who doesn't like their crib?
I'm still trying to figure out what to do - She can't climb in her sleep sack so I have been using that for now. But I know it will only be a short time before that won't hold her b/c she is taking it off on her own in the crib in the mornings.
I think I'm going to have to transition her - but this week she has not been wanting to nap. I put her down - but she just plays and fools around and then after 2 hours if I give up she is very cranky and falling asleep at 430 or 5 - I can't let her nap that late - but she doesn't want to go down at 2 or even 3. I'm not sure what to do.

DS was 18mo. He did a great job. It took like 4 weeks for him to stop popping out of bed 6 times before he finally went to sleep, but he loved it. He would get out of bed in the morning and entertain himself in his room before finally coming out--he still does to this day (I can see the light on and had no idea he was even awake yet).
