Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary
Its really funny, I have always loved working, but I also have really loved being that school run mother, who goes to every school party with a baked good, who goes to coffee morning every friday and serves food at the Christmas fair...
I always expected that I would want to go back to work etc, but the old cliche etc, I'm not having another baby, and I love taking care of the family...so I just don't know if its worth it for me.
I think I would like to have a 2-3 year career break, and then find something else to do! Who knows...

Or maybe a more flexible job? I never imagined I would love being the "School Mom" either, and somehow I landed the role, and really enjoy it. I work full-time but my job is so incredibly flexible that I am able to participate in every school party, event, PTO meeting, etc. It's a nice balance having one foot in both worlds...

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary
Its a tough decision. For me it comes down to a lot more than just the money. I work p/t and pay about 40% of my salary to daycare for the twins. Thats not including what I pay for Landon's preschool and what I "pay" my MIL for watching him (she doesn't take $ we give her gift cards and presents). If I count that it jumps to about 45-50%. It sounds like a lot but even after paying all this I still make a decent amount per hour. Thats the way I look at it rather than %. Yes it would be nice to make that total amount but thats not possible having kids. I also enjoy working, am avoiding having a gap on my resume, have flexible hours and a short commute, awesome boss and coworkers, like having adult time and lunch break, like that Landon spends time with MIl?FIL, etc. Factoring all that in makes it worth it to take home 50%. Good luck with your decision!
ETA: when I worked full time it would NOT be possible for me to afford daycare for 3 kids. I am doing much better working p/t. I make a lot more working p/t... less overall but more per hour.

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary
Thanks everyone, a bit part of this is having my husbands buy in, because he will have to help support me! And I have expensive tastes!
I will try to find a more flexible job, but I would just like another two years to be home with my kids. I am not a high earner, but I work in a high pressured, deadlines driven job...so that part of it is just making me feel a bit sick at the moment!

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary
Mine will be about 35-40%.
It could be 80% and I would still work. It is very important for me to continue my career, make my own money and challenge myself in areas outside the home.
I love my family, and appreciate the work it takes to be home full time but it's just not for me. DH would love for me to work full time caring for our family and home, but he understands my work outside the home is just too important for me to give up.

78% of my monthly paycheck goes to pay daycare..yet I still can't afford to stay home.. crazy!!
eta: after taxes.
So frustrating. But pls remind yourself there is more to it then just today's paycheck - factor in your retirement, benefits, and place in the workforce...
thats what happened to me- but i decided it would be best if i stayed home but now we are kinda struggling- i guess we are use to 2 paychecks.

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary
I haven't done the percentage but I look at it this way- even it's a huge percentage, it's still money coming in. So even if I had to pay 80% towards daycare (which I don't) but even then, that extra 20% is something. It's money I wouldn't have if I stayed home. If it pays for formula, diapers, clothing for the baby, whatever...it's something.
ETA- I did the math- daycare is 20% of my salary. Luckily we only have to do 2-3 days a week due to my DH's schedule.

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary
ours will be about 1/4 of my take-home- this does not take into account my pension, 401k matching, medical, dental, plans etc.
plus I love my job and especially now since dh's job was outsourced- I am the major provider

Although, truthfully, even if it were upwards of 70%, I would still work, because of the benefits (health, retirement, etc), and the uninterruption of my career, and because the daycare expenses are only temporary...
ITA. I pay a good deal less than 50% of my takehome pay, but my benefits are amazing and I couldn't imagine that I wouldn't be working once he was in school full time.

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary
Mine is about 60% of my take home for 3 but that being said 2 of my boys are in very good but expensive preK programs so I think it is worth it.
Plus I also work for my owm mental health so that has its own price!!

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary
30% of my net goes to DDs child care but that is just my net...not DHs. I think anything over 50% would just cause me to quit unless I needed benefits.

Re: Working Moms...what percent of your salary
I haven't done the % but no matter what it is, the benefits at my job make it worthwhile. I was also able to flex my schedule and took a pay cut to have Fridays off. We had to make a lot of budget cuts (cancel HBO, no more manis, etc) when i took the pay cut, but it was worth it. Maybe u can see if u can change your hours or cut back?
