testing after m/c
My doctor offered me the choice of doing some testing to see what may have been the cause of the m/c. I was so upset at the doc office that I didnt get a chance to ask him what that test really entails, lots of bloodwork?..can someone please explain to me. I asked if he would recommend me going through with the testing and he said it is really a personal choice, he said I may just want to go ahead and try again, as miscarriages are very common and there is often no known cause for it..

Re: testing after m/c
we had testing done on the products of conception but i am still waiting for the results. my doctor said lots of times it can come back normal or they may find a chromosome defect that was the cause of the loss (i think that they say most times that is the reason for an early mc). i also had them try to do some testing outside of that (b/c of a genetic thing in my family) but i'm not sure if the testing will be successful.
depending on the findings we may or may not do genetic testing on ourselves. that is something we are going to discuss with a genetics counselor. that is our next step once we get the test results back.
we are leaning towards not doing any additional testing. i am already freaked out and nervous enough. i rather not have more things to worry about and my DH feels the same way. besides i'm not sure what they can check us for. i would guess it's bloodwork? i know i was tested to see if i was a carrier for CF when i first got pregnant and i was not. i am assuming it would be carrier tests for other diseases? i'm not really sure how it works.

Re: testing after m/c
after my second m/c I was frustrated. A year later when I was ready to ttc when I went for a checkup I spoke with my dr. He recommended a HSG test.....
"A hysterosalpingogram (HSG) is an X-ray test that looks at the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes and the area around them. It often is done for women who are having a hard time becoming pregnant "
It was relatively quick, performed in a specialty office, and I've head from online that sometimes it even helps people to become pregnant.
