Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)
THIS IS MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE!!!!!
I yelled at my manger about it. I cleaned off her car the second she pulled up next to me last year. I told her how would she feel is she was responsible for someone dying because they had to move out of the way of the ice behind her and lost control of their car. This year she made sure her care was cleaned off. There is NO excuse WHAT SO EVER!! like another poster stated, if you cant clean it(svu ect) DONT BUY ONE!!! If you cant get to it, ie someone last year said she was 8 months pg, she was not going to risk her or her baby, NO ONE expects you too, BUT THEN ASK someone(dh before he leaves, neighbor) to help you. I mean REALLY, WHAT IF it was you driving behind that person with your new born baby and because the person said well I did not clean it off because of what ever reason and it was you that got hurt. YES I WENT THERE! IF IT GETS YOU TO THINK, then maybe I helped someones life. I am ex stream YES. I know it. FLAME me again this year for it I DONT CARE! Yesterday I saw a THE BIGGEST JERK EVER. He had literally a box cut out in the snow so he can see where he was driving, the rest of the front window, door windows and back window COMPLETELY covered I think I will start a business on the side of the road,Car Snow removal for the lazy. FLAME AWAY

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)
I hate hate HATE this!!!!
I saw a car today, a little sportscar mind you, that had the entire back window covered in 2 inches of snow. I don't understand how, a full 24 hours (at least) after it stopped snowing, that this person could not take the 30 seconds to clean off their small, very low to the ground, window.

when she quoted you she probably adjusted that part to bold to show what she was specifically commenting on.
I agree with all of you. I can't believe that people actually fought this concept last year. Gotta stand by your laziness I suppose....

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)
I saw a car get pullled over in Lynbrook yesterday, and I am guessing it was because there was about a foot of snow flying off the top of their vehicle.

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)
I agee that this should be strictly enforced! What also annoys me about the snow is people who don't shovel. My neighbors are young and they didn't shovel out in the blizzard. They were home all week and just dumped the snow out of their driveway onto the sidewalk making it a huge unshoveled mess! I know it is long island and not many people walk by but some kids may walk to school or walk their dogs. This couple is always home too so I just don't get I. They just moved in in october so I don't know if this is what they always do. This week our neighbor snow blowed for them out of the kindness of his heart!

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)
I had to dodge two trucks yesterday that had flying chunks of snow and ice flying off. I had no idea if it was just a puff of snow or if it was a chunk of ice flying at me. This drives me NUTS every time it snows!

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)
This is one of the biggest lessons I learned from LIF.
I was on the "I can't get to the top of my SUV and I do the best I can, but I can't get everything" side of the thread last year (maybe two years ago now that I think about it).
I was exhausted with trying to work and get a 1.5 year old to school and DH to chemo and I didn't always do it.
I got a stern posting-to by several members of these board.
And you know what? They were right. I had never really thought about the dangers before that and I was just being lazy.
Now I always make sure I park in the garage and if not, I open the car door and stand inside the edge and use a broom to sweep it off best I can.
I think there are still a couple valid excuses - handicapped drivers and preggos who can't reach - so physical limitations can still be an issue.

Re: My vent for the day (Snow related)
This is kind of a stupid question, but if you take your car to a car wash, wouldn't it all melt off?
I ask because I cleared the top of my SUV & my DH is driving around with a foot of snow on top of his Impala

I don't think there's ever ANY valid reason to put other's lives at risk.
If you physically cannot get the snow off your vehicle, take a cab or public transportation. They could even pay someone to clear that part of their car off... a kid on the street. Enlist the help of a neighbor or family member. Where there's a will there's a way and this is a task that can be done and if not then it's your responisibility as a vehicle owner to not put other's lives at risk and you should travel via an alternate method.
I wouldn't want to die or have someone I know or even don't know die because someone was pregnant or handicapped so they got a free pass to not do due dilligence.

What if someone fell outside their home and broke something?? Can't they sue? I know it's the homeowners insurance they are usually suing, but still?
I know for a fact it's a law in NYC to shovel by a certain time frame. Is it the same on LI? I'm assuming so but IDK for certain.
I had a friend who fell on ice and snow outside someone's home. he broke his leg in 3 places and needed a metal rod put into his leg. He sued the homeowners because they didn't shovel their snow within the allotted timeframe.
ETA: we also have 311 in NYC area to report this sort of stuff....

I just saw this on my way in to work!!! I cleaned my car off yesterday. There really should be a law against not cleaning your car off.
I believe there IS a law saying that you must clean off the top of your vehicle. A thick sheet of ice can form up there.
