fund raising and school

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me with some questions I have regarding fund raising and my dd's school. In June my family is going to participate in the CCFA walk. My dd was diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis last year and participating in the walk has become really important to her.
She's only in pre-school right now but the school she's in will be her school for many years and I thought it would be nice if I included the school, but I'm not sure who to ask or what to ask.
Does anyone have any experience with fund raising in the school?

Our pre-school didn't do much fundraising, any that went on went through the directors.

At our elementary school all fundraising goes through the PTA or the student council.
