Help...cold or flu?

My son came down with a 102 fever Mon. night. He's had a very low grade temp all week& been lethargic. The dr thinks it's a virus. She wasn't going to test him for the flu since he didn't have chest congestion & if he had the flu she wouldn't treat him for it anyway. She said the fever should break in 24-48 hrs...it hasn't.

We took him back to the doctor yesterday, he still had the low-grade fever & also developed pink eye. He was prescribed antibiotics. He's taken two doses his fever is higher today 102.2. Now my daughter developed a high fever today & has the same symptoms as my son. It makes me wonder if it is the flu?

Has anyone has experience a fever for this long with a cold virus?

Please tell me if your dc had the flu...
How long did the fever last?
Did your dc have chest congestion?
Did your dr prescribe Tamiflu?

Re: Help...cold or flu?

I have no experience with a fever for that long, but I would take them in to be tested just for peace of mind. I hope they feel better soon! I think that's a long time to have a fever, but I've definitely heard of long lasting viruses circulating.

I'm so concerned his fever hasn't broke yet. Both the kids had their flu shots but I hear that hasn't helped with this flu season. Now that dd has a fever I'm worried if it is the flu she should be on Tamiflu.

The flu is also accompanied by cold, cough, lethargy. My boys had it and they had fevers for 5-6 days but they went up and down.

Re: Help...cold or flu?

My son is on day 6 of a fever that gets higher at night. I took him to the dr 2x already this week beause it wasnt going away. Then on day 4 he developed a cough and ear infection, no chest congestion, and was prescribed an antibiotic, and his fever went higher after taking it for 2 days also.
The dr said this is a virus thats going around, didnt seem too worried, if he still has a fever by Tues(Day 8)he wants me to bring him back in, I praying it will be gone by then, how is your DS?
