Anyone ever hatch chicks?

Ive always wanted to do this! Where can I get more information about doing this? I know I would need an incubator but where do I get the eggs, and what do I do with the chicks afterwards?

Re: Anyone ever hatch chicks?

We did this at the pre-school I worked at. It was over the summer. I can't remember the name of the farm, but they are in PA. They drove 4 hours, dropped off 12 eggs, we kept them for like a week or so and they came back and got them. I want to say Deepwell Farms? I know the name of the farm ended in "well."

When I worked as a permanent sub in one of the districts, one of the kindergarten classes hatched quails and they were released in Caleb Smith Park.

Re: Anyone ever hatch chicks?

Our science teacher does this.

She drives out to get the eggs (not sure where).
She purchased an incubator (the school ended up paying for it). The eggs are in there a while and the conditions have to be pretty perfect.
I think you have to plan out when you get them so they arent hatching when you arent there on a weekend.
She has had a batch that never hatched (i think a janitor hit into it and the temp got messed up.
After they hatched she kept them for a week or two (had to bring them home on the weekend) also had to purchase a fish tank to keep them in and a heated lamp
Then she drove them back to the farm

The kids do really love it though (i teach 1st grade)

I did this when I taught Inclusion.. It was an awesome experience for my students. We got the incubator from Donors choose. My co teacher got the eggs from a farm put eat (they will actually take back the hatched chicks). Yes, you need to plan it good. They take 1-21 to hatch so make sure your 19th day is a Monday.. We put 12 eggs in.. We candled them each day saw the lil chick actually moving around in there, Out of 12 eggs 10 hatched...
