Severe Aquired Traumatic Brain Injury
Hi all, We have a 15 year old boy that was hit by a drunk driver when he was 13.
Son has come far but still dependent on all daily living needs.
He has been home for just over a year , and I am trying to keep him entered in out-patient therapies. I have been feeling pushed lately to put him into a school based program. At this time I still want to keep him out patient to get the most recovery possible.
I have spoken to a few Admidssions directors, and they confirm that he would not get near the amount of therapy in school as he does now or quality.
Does anyone have a TBI child out there on the island? maybe we can share resources. Has anyone had experience with an exceptional program that has profound knowledge of TBI?
Thank you for any feedback,
nat

Re: Severe Aquired Traumatic Brain Injury
I am a big believer in home therapy since you can ensure that your child is indeed receiving his full session and you can get instant feedback from the therapists. You also have more control over who the therapists are.
I wanted to suggest music therapy. Music therapy works on so many skills (strength, movement, language, self esteem etc)
I hope you find the support and resources !!! If you post on familes helping families, you will get more responses !

Re: Severe Aquired Traumatic Brain Injury
Thank you for your response to my inquiry. I have had the ability to sit in or most often participate in the therapies out-patient. When it comes to home therapies? We don't have the space nor the equipment to accomodate his needs.
I appreciate you suggesting another board to post on, I will do that for sure. My son is the size of an adult in both weight and height. In his various rahabs since coming home, he has had 1 therapist and an assistant. When the assistant wasn't available, well....then it would be me.
Once again thank you.

What district are you in?
So he stays home and receives services in the home?
