Saloon is always a good time - it's on 83rd & York. Last time I was there the crowd was a little younger (early 20's) but they always play great music.

We went to Barcelona Bar (8th b/w 54th and 5th) for shots before going to Joshua Tree.
We had an amazing time! Looks like a dive but they have 100's of shots between $3 and $7 and some even come with props!
The Top Gun shot came with aviators, a hat, and they play Danger Zone while you take the shot!!
The Harry Potter shot involves the bartender dressing up as Harry and then lighting the shot on fire!
I had so much fun there!

I used to live at 83rd and York!
Saloon is a decent recommendation as is Mad River and Tin Lizzies. Unfortunately all these bars are a younger crowd but great music and fun!

My friends and I went to the Awesome 80's Prom for her 30th and had a good time ...Webster Hall  ...Not sure if thats considered upper east side though-LOL
