If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
So my doctors office said that I am probably going to pass it on my own. They want me to come in for a sono on Saturday to then see if I will need a D&C? Isn't that something they do when you are further along in the pregnancy? At this point I'm only 7 weeks (and was 6 when I started bleeding)
I don't know why but I'm terrified of this. I'm also going on a cruise leaving next weekend so if I have a D&C do I need to cancel the cruise?
I would much rather have my body take care of it on it's own if possible.
Sorry if I sound so ignorant about this, but it's nothing I ever had to think about before.

Re: If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
If I remember correctly, they did see a sac at your first sono, right? If that's the case then they need to make sure that that is no longer there and that the uterus cleans out on it's own. By the time I got to the ER my uterus was completely empty and the lining of my uterus was normal, so I did not need a D&C.
Since I didn't have a D&C I'm not sure, but I don't THINK you will have to cancel your cruise. HOPEFULLY, you will be able to go and have an awesome time! You deserve it!!!!
Hang in there, Diana! Slowly but surely this does get a little easier.

Re: If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
I was only 5.5 weeks when I had my m/c, but it happened so quickly and completely that by the time I had my sono later that day, there was no visible signs of pregnancy in my uterus.
I can't tell you much about the D&C because I've thankfully never had to have one.
I hope that you pass everything on your own and that you can then go away and relax on your cruise.

Did they mention giving you meds instead of D&C? That's what they gave me at 7wks because it was less invasive.

Re: If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
I'm sorry for your loss. I had 2 natural miscarriages, back to back. My 1st, much like yours, 7 weeks along, started bleeding on a Saturday. Went to er, sac measured at 6 weeks. Bleeding stopped on Monday. Had a dr appt on Tuesday woke up to go to the bathroom (sorry tmi) passed a clot the size shape and texture of a peach pit. Some more tmi, my dr told me to bring any tissue I passed to her, so I got a plastic bag and some gloves and brought her the tissue. She said it looks complete did a quick internal sono and said I was done. No pain no heavy bleeding.
The 2nd one about 6weeks later total opposite labor like cramps, heavy heavy bleeding. But after the tissue passed I was fine

Re: If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
Sorry to hear of your loss.
Unfortunately I've experienced both a natural miscarriage and 3 D&Cs.
With my first miscarriage @7 weeks, I started miscarrying with no signs or symptoms just bleeding, passed the sac after a couple of hours (when you see it, you'll know), but still needed a D&C to get the remainder tissue and placental tissue out.
My 2nd miscarriage was a natural miscarriage at about 6 weeks. Because I was "early" the Dr. didn't think I would need a D&C. Well, it was so physically painful that I would never go through it again. (And I have a high tolerance for pain.) I had such bad cramping and back pain and was running to the bathroom every 10 minutes to pass everything. That continued for two days or so and then I spotted for a week after that.
If you've been bleeding for a week and haven't "passed" anything yet, I would have the D&C. Did your Dr. see a sono to see what's going on?
I've had 2 out of my 3 D&C's at Good Sam. The nurses there were great. It's a fairly quick procedure and you're out after a couple of hrs.

Re: If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
At my first sono they just saw an empty sac, I was 7 weeks at the time. I was already bleeding a lot on my own and passing clots, so my OB thought I would pass it all on my own. By Wednesday I still hadn't, so they prescribed me cytotec to induce contractions. It all happened pretty quickly after that and was relatively painless.

Re: If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
I had basically a very heavy period and cramping for 3-4 days - when i called the dr the first day they said there was nothing he could do at that point and so early in the pregnancy (it was a saturday) - I was in for a sono the following monday and the sac was already gone. So it was a pretty quick for me. If you hadn't passed the sac, i'd probably try to do the D&C as quickly as possible and hopefully before the cruise... so sorry again...

Re: If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
I was 11 weeks along and still passed naturally.
As for the DNC-I had some fibroids removed a few years ago and the doctor said it was similar to a DNC since they went in intravaginally. I had the surgery on Friday and felt fine my Monday so I think you should be okay for the cruise.

Re: If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
as I posted before, my first I was 10 weeks, natural m/c. Then at 14 weeks a d & C. I'm terrified of anesthesia, so I made my OB do it while I was awake with a cervical block. It took 5 minutes, was painless and I was fine 2 days later. ( cramping the day after and less the day after that) ...
a D&C's only upside is it will end the bleeding faster and will reduce the risk of any infection.

Re: If you had a natural miscarriage please come in
I've had 2 natural MC's- both around 5-6 weeks. Never had to have a D&C- both times I just started miscarrying on my own- heavy bleeding- and my body took care of everything myself.
