Has anyone ever had a stomach bug for a few weeks?

My whole family has gotten it once, my daughter twice, my husband twice...and I feel like my stomach has not been right for like 3-4 weeks now. Went to a gastro Dr. and she thinks its just gastrotenteritis aka stomach bug related. Also had bloodwork done but the results aren't back yet.

This morning I Lysol-ed everything in my house (in between sessions of peeing out of my butt) WTH?! What do I do??

I would be concerned it was something other than an average bug if it's around that long. You would need to have stool samples done to see what is really going on.

no, no need to worry, gastro issues can last weeks!! Your immune system is done and your daughter and husband are passing it around, although you are not getting in full fledged you are obviosuly carrying the germ in your gut. Get liquid form Acidophilus, it will balance the ph in your GI tract. I had this lst year, had it for 1 week (thought I was preggers) then my whole family got it and we kept passing it back and forth, my stomach was on the fritz for weeksChat Icon Feel betterChat Icon

OHhh thank you! I know the Dr. said its sounds like just gastro upset but I never knew anyone to have it this long. Hopefully sterlizing the house will help and making a concious effort to not share utensils and stuff... crazy!!

Stomach viruses are passed fecal-oral, so it's not an issue sharing utensils when it comes to a stomach bug. Washing hands good after going to the bathroom is the key.

You're most likely to contract viral gastroenteritis when you eat or drink contaminated food or water, or if you share utensils, towels or food with someone who's infected.

so yes, washing utensils and not sharing products that have touch of saliva will cut dow on transmission, The fecal-oral is usually the cause of food poisoning, but anything that your saliva goes on is considered contaminated. In the ER we all got a bad stomach flu once and it was because this guy was heaving all over the place and his spit and vomit was getting everywhere, so every where you touched even hrs later were contaminated.

I think the sharing utensils thing is possibly again if someone has fecal bacteria on their hands and since you are eating, you are more likely to ingest it. Or with towels, if they had fecal bacteria on their hands and use that towel, then you wipe your hands or mouth with it.I really didn't think it was the actual saliva (unless I guess you put your fecally contaminated hands in your mouth, which I guess many children might do or even some adults). Not disputing you, just would like to know if I was misinformed all these years. I would really love to know if it's the actual saliva (had it not been contaminated with fecal matter).
