If your child isn't able to attend a birthday party of a classmate.....

Do you still buy them a gift?

JUST wondering?

No

ETA: I agree with the everyone, I assumed you meant a party you knew you weren't going to. If it was a last minute thing, yes, we still give a gift.

Exactly. And I've never had a child do so for my kids either. I've only seen her on LIF that people said they do it.

We do the same. Unless it is a particuarly close friend of our family - then we will buy a gift no matter what the situation.

Ditto. Some of DS's classmates are friends outside of school, so for them we would. Otherwise, no.

I just sent me son to school today with a gift for his classmate whose party he couldn't attend a week or so ago. Just my thing - if I were invited and can't go I send something. I didn't spend as much as if I went to the party. I spent about $18-20.

It depends on the kid and the situation. I think I didn't get one gift for a classmate last year but always usually do otherwise.

For a classmate, no. Only if it was a close friend.

If I RSVP'ed yes & they're sick, I get a present.

If it's a regret initially, I don't get one unless they are a close friend.
