WWYD re: visiting ill grandparent?
DH's grandfather is in the hospital in FL. He has MRSA infection and from what we are hearing from his grandmother, he is not doing well  He hasn't had a chance to meet our 11 month old DS yet. We would like to go down and see him and of course, we'd like to have him meet his great-grandson but I'm scared to go because MRSA is so contagious. Just curious to see what others would do if in my situation.

I am thinking that DS wouldn't be allowed to see him. It is really contagious. He is probably in a private room with orders for everyone going in to gown up and glove up. I would call the hospital and see what they say. They may be able to accomodate DS if he really isn't doing good...Sorry to hear he is so sick....

Im so sorry D. MRSA can be contagious but from my experience its all about taking the proper precautions. I have worked with many patients with MRSA and was never ever worried about catching it, even while pregnant. MRSA can be carried different ways (ie: in a wound, urine, sputum, etc) some are more contagious then others. That said, im not sure how it would affect an infant. Maybe you could find out where the infection lies and also ask your ped for an opinion.

MRSA is very contagious. My brother had it, bad. In the hospital. His own children were not allowed tomsee him. Sorry, not worth the risk.
