Re: Great my kid's teacher is spouting facts.
I tell my kids that girls are smarter than boys all of the time. But I teach math. In a high school. And most of my students are immigrants who come in with a strong patriarchal view towards education.
It creates a sense of pride in the girls; until their parents deny them a chance to go to a decent college and force them to marry at the age of 18.
The boys don't believe me anyway - I'm a girl.
The berating kids in front of others, oh, hell no.

Are you serious? Are you SURE that's what she said? Perhaps said sarcastically (but still clearly NOT cool, as sarcasm isn't really cool with young kids). I can't imagine any teacher in their RIGHT mind saying that!!!

Re: Great my kid's teacher is spouting facts.
Next time, I would have him tell her about Title IX.
Last year my middle schooler experienced a pattern of very similar comments from a tenured Spanish Teacher.
A few of the parents (many of whom were lawyers) requested a meeting with the principal where we reminded him that although a tenured teacher may prove difficult to discipline from his point of view, his tenure didn't protect him or the district from a federal suit. The problem was taken care of quickly.
