Gender Mistakes
So our neighbors had a baby boy a few days ago, however from the time they could determine the sex of the baby they told them that they were having a GIRL!! They had the nursery all ready for a girl, and everything she registered for and received was for a girl!!! Washed clothes, set things up, all ready to go!
How common is it for Dr.'s to make this mistake and when you were told the gender did they give you a % of accuracy???

Re: Gender Mistakes
I think its very rare, especially nowadays since technology is much better. I know in the 80-90's when sonos weren't that good, it happened to my MIL but that's the only time I've ever heard of it happening.

Re: Gender Mistakes
one of my friends thought she was having a boy and wound up finding out she was having a girl a couple of weeks before she gave birth. however, they told her at her 20 week sonogram that they were only 60% sure because the baby kept wiggling around--they at least got that warning! i asked my sono tech about it, and she said that they tell people on a daily basis that they can't see the gender if they aren't like 95% sure. that makes me feel secure.

Re: Gender Mistakes
It happens. When I went for my 20w sono they told me they were 80% sure it was a girl. I had to go back that weekend and they upped it to 90%.
I just had another sono at 34w and was able to get a much better view, def a girl!!
The only time it's 100% is at the birth.

Re: Gender Mistakes
That happened to my cousin, but she found out a few weeks before she gave birth, she had a girl baby shower, got tons of pink items and girl clothes, she had to return everything pink lol.

Re: Gender Mistakes
that kinda thing horrifies me. If this ends up being a boy, I sure hope he doesn't mind wearng girl clothes for the first couple months of his life
My sono tech told me at 20wks that she was 90% sure it was a girl. Then when I went back a week later (because baby was hiding her head) the Dr upped it to 95% so I'm pretty sure.

The told me at 18.5 weeks DD was a girl and every ultrasound i had after i asked them to check and make sure. I watched a baby story once and they told her she was having twin boys and ended up having twin girls.

Re: Gender Mistakes
I think it happens, especially when it's early but I don't think it's common. For some reason I had this worry at my last sono but the sono tech checked again and said "No those are def testicles!" If you're concerned just have them look again. .

Re: Gender Mistakes
With all this Gender Mistake talk I stated getting worried. On Tuesday I had my 20wk Sono and was told I was having a ... But he was moving around A LOT!! So I started fearing that maybe the tech got it wrong. Well fortunately for me I work in the Medical Field in a radiology office, so this morning I came to work all paranoid and had a Sono Tech Scan me to make sure that it was a boy so it can just ease me. And ThankFully Yes it is definitely a boy. I tell you Pregnancy can drive you to go Nuts!! LOL

Re: Gender Mistakes
It's definitely possible, but not long ago my. dr mentioned that with the technology they have today, it shouldn't happen. I've seen this LO spread his legs more than I can count, he is definitely a boy, I think I might be horrified if it were a girl at this point. I've bonded with him so much and with the fact of having a son I can't imagine him being a she lol....of course as long as the baby is healthy who cares.
Rooms can be painted, clothes can be returned, all that matters is that the baby is ok!
