Help! Who's invited to DC's birthday party???
Can I get away w/ not inviting every girl from DD's class? She only plays with a few and we have so many other children from outside her class. I don't want a party w/ 30+ kids!

Re: Help! Who's invited to DC's birthday party???
All depends on the age & if they can be discreet. I've seen kids in tears over being excluded. I'm not saying it's not going to happen later on in life but to make a 4-5-6 year old feel that way, I wouldn't do it.
If you're leaving a few out, I'd say no. I've seen moms do "a brownie party" where only the troop was invited. I've seen girls only parties, boys only parties, etc.
I would either scale down the party or only invite no more than 1-3 girls from her class & call it a family party that they're invited to.
Of course you can do whatever you want, but if you're asking if it's right, picture the flip side if your daughter was the one of the excluded ones.

Re: Help! Who's invited to DC's birthday party???
I personally would only invite her friends from school and mail the invitations. I'm probably in the minority, but I'm not a big fan of my kids being invited to every single birthday party of all the kids in their class if they are not even friends with the kid. It gets excessive.
I don't know...life is all about learning to deal with things that come your way, so if you don't get invited to every party, its a learning opportunity.
But I'm also not a fan of kids sports when they don't keep score so no one loses. (sure for preschoolers that's fine, but beyond that I don't think its necessary). Teaching good sportsmanship is kinda how I view the whole birthday invite thing.
Life lessons in my opinion.

Of course!
Ask your DD who her "best friends" are in school and invite those girls, that's it! Who can invite all the girls in the class??

I think as long as you don't invite all but one girl, you should be fine. They just don't want you singling out people with the riles about inviting everyone

Thanks for all the advice! I will be mailing the invites and will be inviting about half of the girls from DD's class.

Agreed. Just have her put the invites in the cubbies (or where ever they put their backpacks) so the uninvited kids are not hurt.

Good call on the mailing! A lot of schools do have rules against sending in invites unless you are sending them for the whole class.
When the kids were little we invited everyone. Now we let them choose their 'special friends'. It's easier - but you have to remember that your daughter may be excluded from parties in the future. It's not the worst thing in the world - but it can be tough to explain the first time. And - honestly - it can still happen even if you do invite everyone.
I hope the party goes fabulously!
