Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
Hi ladies ,i'm new here so i'd like to start off by saying hello. I was on the Liw boards for a while and then we got married and now were preggers . I just wanted to ask if anyone else has felt ashamed of gaining weight at the doctors office? I went to the doc for my last appointment about 2 weeks ago at 23 wks. I'm about 5'6" and average pre pregnancy weight. I was very sick during the first tri- mester and lost 10 lbs. I got on the scale and the docs assistant had the nerve to tell me wow you've gained a lot of weight . I gained 25 lbs , but it's really only 15 pre- pregnancy lbs. She made me feel so bad i started crying. Dh made me feel better about it but i'm still upset . Why should i have to explain that i lost weight thats why it seems like so much . The funny part is i'm six months preggo and i don't even look it i hear i look pretty small. I just wanted to know if anyone else felt this way.

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
At my last appointment I was 19 weeks pregnant and gained 18 pounds. I go this Thursday (23 weeks) and I'm sure I will be around what your weight gain was. It sucks, I stress about it, however personally I have waited ALL MY LIFE to be pregnant. I have been waiting and waiting to be the one with the pregnant belly and I finally am. Soooo when I start to get upset about it, I remind myself of these things and I try to enjoy this special time in my life instead of spending so much time stressing about the weight. I don't want to look back on this time and say I didn't enjoy it because I was so worried about the weight (and that something was going to go wrong again-I had a miscarriage over the summer). I want to enjoy every moment of it so I am trying REALLY hard not to stress about the weight. But I am there with you, you're not alone!!!

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
P.S. I am 23 weeks tomorrow and I DEFINATELY look it-and then some!!!!! I even had a Chinese waiter the other day congratulate me and tell me that I was almost done. When I corrected him and said I wasn't due until the end of June he stupidly responded, oh are you keeping active? REALLLLY?? SERIOUSLY!!!??? I just had to laugh it off!

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
I haven't gained weight yet - I'm only 14 weeks - I've actually lost weight but I'm finding myself obsessing over it. I was a little chubby to begin with and I really don't want to put on more weight. I have been having some pretty bad aversions to meat and veggies which leaves me with carbs and fruit (i.e. sugar based foods) to eat. I'm freaking out about it.
Also, even though I have lost weight, my body is obviously changing. My butt and thighs are spreading. My thighs were actually rubbing together today! Ugh I can't stand it!
So yes, I can empathize with you.

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
I feel upset every single time I get on the scale. Definitely a huge change for me and the highest weight that I have ever been in my life. With that being said, I know that it's for a good reason and once my LO is born I will try my hardest to lose it all as quickly as possible. Try not to feel ashamed

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
I have always been weight obsessed and being prego is hard as far as the weight gaining I lost in the beginng and also have been looking at it from my start weight. People are saying I look great.I feel fat and of course am worried about getting it off. I am so happy to be pg and would not change a thing, but the weight part is hard. Hang in there and dont listen to anyone.

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
If there is any time in life you are expected to gain weight and totally get away with it.. Pregnancy is the time.
Dont let anyone make you feel guilty about gaining weight. You are supposed to.

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
With hormones raging and already self conscience with your ever changing body it is nearly impossible to not worry about the numbers you see on the scale.
Just know we are all there with you. And weight gain is nothing you should be ashamed or embarrassed about. You are growing a whole new person and that requires a lot from your body!

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
I think about my weight everyday. I was always very weight conscious and worked out like crazy - I used to beat myself up over a 1lb or 2. Now gaining so much so fast is really scary for me and at almost 32 weeks it seems out of my hands. I try to just be grateful for the blessing growing inside me and stay focused on that.

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
I was more weight obsessed the first time around. With that being said, I lost the baby weight plus more so I know from experience that it does come off if you want it too. It was harder mentally to gain weight the first pregnancy, this time I knew how and what to expect so its not so bad, I have even gained less, woo hoo! Some woman feel sexy pregnant, I do not. I am not one of those girls who looks great with pregnancy. My hair looks like crap, my skin, my *** is fat so no matter how much weight gain is gained it's everything else that goes with it too. I wouldnt let anyone get to you, I would be so mad at that nurse! tell her you will gain what you want, its your first pregnancy and you are enjoying it!

Re: Has anyone else felt ashamed about gaining weight?
Its definitely been very hard. I have always been struggling with self esteem issues and I'm very weight concious. I was thin and very in shape before so this has been especially hard. I'm 32 weeks and already gained 38 lbs (and this is with healthy diet and exercise). It has been super hard watching my weight go up to numbers I've never seen in my entire life.
I'm trying to remember that this is weight gain with a purpose and if it means I'll have a healthy LO I'm ok with it. I've been more accepting of the weight gain lately because I understand it's for one of the best possible reasons. I just figure I'll lose it all afterward anyway because I have a very active lifestyle and have always been very into working out. Most people lose the baby weight so I'm not as worried as I once was.
