breastfeeding class
is it necessary to take a class? or will the lactation nurses teach me enough after the baby is born?
also, for those who have taken the class, did DH's go too? my DH is not really interested lol.

Re: breastfeeding class
I took one when I was preg with DD and my DH came with me. It was 2 nights, for like 2 hours or so, and I think they could have condensed it into one night.
However, I found it to be helpful and they gave out a lot of papers, samples and helpful hints. DH wasn't really into it either, but I think it gave him a 'heads up' as to what was coming and we were better prepared together.

Re: breastfeeding class
most hospitals offer them and I am sure your OB would be able to refer you to someone as well.

Re: breastfeeding class
I took one with DS. I found it helpful and informative and I felt more excited and prepared for what was in store with BF (until I had a 10lbs baby who ate ALL the time!).
As far as DH, yeah he didnt go. I went with my BFF who was pregnant at the time.
In my class most DHs were there but there were a few of us without.
ETA: I took mine at CFA in smithtown. familycfa.com

Re: breastfeeding class
I took a free class at the hospital where I delivered DD. To be honest, while it was informative, the LC at the hospital (once DD was born) was the most helpful.

Re: breastfeeding class
It was the only prebaby class I took and I was glad I did. The LC at my hospital instructs the class (NS Plainview), she also leads a BF group once a week after the baby is born.
I was glad to have the class, b/c the LC wasn't at work the first 2 days I was in the hospital, so I was glad to have the knowledge (and a BF book with me)
DH also went and was very proud of himself for asking a question.

Re: breastfeeding class
We'll be taking a class the Saturday before my due date at my OB's office. Originally I was just going to rely on the LCs at the hospital but our lamaze teacher brought up some things that made me think it would be a good idea to have a head-start on what BFing is all about. She encouraged the DHs to go too, afterall they go to lamaze, why not breast feeding? It's a good idea for them to know what's going on/what we're going through too.

Re: breastfeeding class
I took one of Winthrop's Classes, and it was interesting... I thought it was worth taking if I remember, but after having a child my memory is shot lol .
I DEF TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE LC in the Hosipital... There was on every shift in my hospital and I always asked to see them. It def helped!
Good Luck!
