The Perfect Age...
I say this now knowing that I will change my mind in a year as I have every month/year since she was born....but WHAT AN AMAZING age 5 years old is.
The things that come out of their mouths-- "Mommy, have I ever steered you wrong?"
The breakneck speed that they learn-- I mean, did we JOURNAL in kindergarten?
Their desire to understand who they are and be open to adults not ALWAYS having the answer.
We chat. We laugh. We have inside jokes! She understands when she's done something wrong and apologizes before I can even chastise her.
She rolls her eyes at me when I nag her.
I look at her and I can pat myself on the back a little. She's sensitive and sweet...and so caring.
She cups my face with her little (no longer teeny) hands and tells me "I hope you know how important you are to me." That statement means she is listening to me. She knows that for me, the sun rises and sets with her... and isn't that all I can ever ask for? I cherish and thank whoever is up above every.single.day. for her...
With the death of her classmate a few weeks back, it has 100% made me rethink everything I am and everything I am doing in my life regarding her...and I realized that with a few small exceptions, we're doing pretty great. Appreciating every day, every moment...and for me right now, the best age

Great post and good for you for looking at the great things about your DD when so often it is so easy to forget the wonderful things and focus on the hard things!

I agree it is so easy to find the bad and annoying things that we often forget about the good things.
For me I couldn't give a perfect age. My DD is 10 and turning into such a wonderful little lady. We get to do more grown-up things together now, she has real opinions, and she is such a caring girl. My DS is almost 14 and has his first real crush. It is so sweet, and I love how he blushes when I ask about her. My DSS is 18...YIKES! Actually it is great! He's such a good and responsible young man and it rocks that he drives now so he can run to the store if I forget something.
