Spin-Off to Fave Stephen King
Sooooooo... I'm just going to come right out and say it- I've never read anything by Stephen King. Never.  I've seen It ( ) when I was younger and that made me never, ever want to read Stephen King. I've always been a little too soft for horror and gore, but recently I've been getting into it a little more. I read The Strain by Chuck Hogan/Guillermo Del Toro, a graphic novel by Stephen King, and Let the Right One In by John Adjvide Lundquist. I thought they were all pretty tame honestly, but when I read reviews people thought they were really creepy and compared them to the works of Stephen King. So now I'm thinking maybe I will enjoy them if I read them.
Soooo here's my question... what would you suggest for a Stephen King newbie? I was thinking maybe starting off with Full Dark, No Stars, but I was wondering what all you guys would suggest. TIA!

This makes me feel a little better! My dad wants to disown me for not being a Stephen King lover.  He's been trying to get me into it forever!

I would start off with Carrie. That's shorter, and has a great story.

Do you want to jump right in to his nightmare horror type stories, psychological "that could happen in MY town!" books, or stories that aren't horror stories, but still written in SK style?
Carrie is a great story, but kind of bloody. Same with Christine.
Cujo and Gerald's Game are mostly focused on internal thoughts, since there's really only one character in the story.
Cell, Misery, The Shining and Apt Pupil are stories that *could* happen, sorta.
The Dark Tower series and The Eyes of the Dragon are period pieces, and not really horror books.
Tommyknockers, Under the Dome and Insomnia are science fiction stories
The collections are a great way to start off. You get several stories, and each one is a more manageable size, sort of like a sampler platter.

That's why I was kinda thinking Full Dark, No Stars. My co-worker also rec'd the Dark Tower series to me.
I don't want to dive right into the blood and gore exactly though I do know the Carrie story so I don't think it'd be too bad for me. lol! Hmmm I'm gonna poke around that site and see what books I can steal off my dad! I still have another series to finish (which is just about the polar opposite of Stephen King) but then I think I'm going for it! I'll keep you guys posted! Thanks again!
