Sudden hearing loss

DH woke up last Sunday with hearing loss in his left ear, and dizziness. He went to is PCP who diagnosed an earache. Two days of antibiotics later and nothing. So yesterday he went to an ENT, who diagnosed him with SSHL or sudden sensonerual hearing loss, basically he has lost all hearing in his left ear and might never get it back. The doctor put him on steroids which according to my research is the correct plan of action, but we are still looking into 2nd opinions. We are in Southampton, but are obviously looking everywhere. Any advice or thought on:

I'm so sorrry you're going through this. It must be very scary for you and DH.

I have 2 children with sensonerual hearing loss. In the past we've used LIJ Hearing and Speech Center and liked them. I've also heard good things about Dr. Linstrom at NY Eye and Ear from other parents who have used him.

I hope they find out what is going on with your husband. Could it have been a virus that caused this? Would he be able to use a hearing aid in that ear?

Thank you so much!!! He is getting blood tests on Monday, they are looking into Lyme's.

It could be a few different things..Menieres Disease, a small tumor that grows on the auditory nerve, circulatory problem or viral infection. Is he taking any medications? Some are ototoxic.
