Re: How much do you pay for Nanny? (two kids)
I think it depends a lot -- for two kids I would say about 2400 (+ transport) is possible in nyc.
If you are in long island, I think you may be able to find someone for about 2000.

Re: How much do you pay for Nanny? (two kids)
You can get an au pair for much cheaper. You pay a 1 time fee about $4000 to bring them here from another country and then they live with you. They work up to 40 hours a week for something like $200 per week and you pay extra for anything over that. I think sometimes they'll go to school at night. It's nice because you have a built in babysitter for the weekends.

From what I've seen, they are typically $12.50 to $15 an hour, or more.

Re: How much do you pay for Nanny? (two kids)
I had a post about this recently and it was really split on people thinking that was a crazy number to pay and others think that was a reasonable rate and what it costs to have a full time nanny. On top of the 37k/year she also gets 2 weeks paid vacation, paid holidays and we feed her breakfast and lunch. I am sure there are cheaper ones out there and from my thread a week or two ago there are definitely people who pay much less, but I interviewed 10 nannies and they were consistently $14-16/hour.
Good Luck

Re: How much do you pay for Nanny? (two kids)
Are you trying to tell us something???
Have you checked into other daycares or spoke with your daycare about it? Usually they give a better rate for sibblings and John's rate will probably go down when he goes to the next class?
That was a huge thing with us when we moved to NJ. I knew the daycare Mason would go to b/c I worked there. It's a small, privately owned one that is licensed, but they have the best rates. They also hooked us up a little too... no deposit and gave Mason the 19 month pricing even though he was around 14 or 15 months when he started. Plus, the price was literally half of what we were paying on LI so we knew we'd be able to afford two there. Only difference is I provide the food, but really... giving him breakfast, lunch and snacks is nothing.

OMG no way...I wouldnt get preggers and have this issue ya know!!
John's rate will be $100 cheaper (big whoop) and a sibling is 10% cheaper..big whoop...wiht all of that it's still going to be $2700 per month..not doable!!
thinking about send him to another daycare makes me want to cry and throw up.. I know it's my issue and he'll adapt fine.. but uggggg sending him to a place where he doesn't know anyone.. really hurts my insides!!!

Re: How much do you pay for Nanny? (two kids)
I pay $13/hr for 50 hrs a week for 1 child in Manhattan. I am probably on the lower end of the range - most nannys are looking for $15/hr. I pay on the books so I also have employer taxes and workmans comp. We give her 1 week paid vacation on her own and she is paid when we are on vacation. I also give her a metrocard and offered to have food for all of her meals, but she prefers to bring her own food. It prob comes to about $725/wk. The local daycare is $450/wk.

Re: How much do you pay for Nanny? (two kids)
10 dollars an hour 10-15 an hour depending on situation and what you work out with nanny but it seems like that is the avg. my suggestion is to look at day care around your neighborhood and tell the nanny your option to go there and see what number above that is fair for everyone

Yeah for us, it would be the same as we pay right now for DS.
It's off the books and she has another job (she works in retail, so her hours are flexible) so for her it's just extra money. But she actually worked in a daycare center for years, was a full-time nanny for a long time, and is great with kids.
