I probably won't do it until it gets more accepted, lol. But I honestly like the idea. DD is in preschool and even if I know what the kids are into, I don't know what they already have. It would make things a lot easier.

I do this all the time. I have 4 kids that are 4 and under and I don't want duplicates of anything. I already have a toy store in my house. I don't find anything wrong with it. If the gift doesn't come with a receipt you can still return it if it was bought off the registry. (the store can look it up) you don't have to buy anything from the registry but at least you have an idea of what the child wants.

The few people I know who did them in the past year or so said it was a bigger PITA than it was worth. They go so many duplicates because people bought things listed but from different stores, most didn't give a gift reciept since they knew the kid wanted it so they didn't think it would need to go back, and now they are stuck with 5 Iron Man operation games or whatever.

The idea is absurd and I would never do it nor participate in buying a childs gift off a registry. Whats wrong with a little whatever you get be thankful for attitude. A bday gift is not a life changing event , its a small token of friendship.
