Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
I have heard great things about Our Redeemer. DS is not in daycare (my parents watch him), but I'm thinking of putting him in a program for 2 days a week in the fall (if there is still availablity). I actually met the man who started the program while I was taking a walk with DS last year. He lives around the block from me. He was really nice.
The other option would be in home daycare if you could find someone that is trust worty. I know some people that send their kids to this woman's home (she is the mother of their co-worker) and they pay $900-$1000 monthly and looooove it.

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
Seriously! You guys in NY pay SO much for day care. I have such availability to great affordable care here in Los Angeles and our cost of living rivals yours. In fact, our gas and grocery prices are way higher. So I just don't get it I will pay the same for two kids next year at my DD preschool that you pay for each kid. Its unreal! I don't know how you afford it!

I know I don't post much - but I am in your area and was in the same situation. We LOVED Teachers Pet on Washington Ave in Plainview - it had an indoor gym, outside playground and was clean with a low ratio....of course then we moved to the south shore. Hope this helps!
I looked at this place 4 years ago when we moved to the area. It was the most affordable in the area for FT, but they weren't opened late enough for us.

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
Also St. Luke's in Farmingdale has a really nice program - my oldest went there for years and its a wondeful well organized program. They do 2/3/5 days 1/2 and full and the price is very resonable.

you know what gets me? How MUCH daycares charge, and yet how LITTLE the teachers earn I understand they've got bills to pay as well as salaries, but still. It's frustrating. I'm sorry I can't be much help. I wonder if a home daycare would cost a little less. yep they make next to nothing because it costs so much to run, insurance is so costly, courses are expensive, food equipment and supplies.
I know the new daycare they opened in massapequa, the taxes are insane, over 50k a year...that doesnt include utilities which are a few thousand a month for gas and electric

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
I'm sorry Linda.... it stinks!
It's sooo much money and like PP said... teachers get paid nothing. No wonder there's a big turn-over rate. Ugh!
My daycare on LI was the same price. About $1200/month. So glad we moved to NJ and thank goodness for my dad retiring. He takes Mason every Friday so I pay for 4 days a week. It's about $150 a week at this place! Love it and I know it well b/c I worked there was I was younger. They even have a full day Kindergarten that DH's cousin is the teacher. I was her assistant back in the day and she set us up. Anyway... I hope it works out. I know if we stayed on LI we couldn't afford it either. We'd want to move to a bigger home and didn't want to move out east or pay a fortune for nothing.

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
This is one of the reasons we decided to wait until DD was in school FT to try for another. I can't fathom paying $2K a month and up for childcare...it's crazy

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
I live out east, but pay $50/day and luckily DD only goes 3 days a week.
When we have another baby and that doubles, it's going to be really tight. I will have to wait until DD is in school before considering a 3rd.

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
Have you considered a nanny? You may be able to get one cheaper than daycare and it is very convenient.
Also, if you have a set up that you could have a live-in it is even cheaper.

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
Linda, I know...DD goes 3 days a wk to Primetime Early Learning Center in Farmingdale (which she and we LOVE) & its about $850 ....I forget how much for 5 full days. We also have to wait until 55 is close to Kindergarden before TTC b/c we can't afford 2 in daycare @ the same time. Good Luck!!

Re: Affordable daycares!!!! WHERE ARE THEY!!
Linda, have you thought about a nanny? We found a friend who is going to watch both kids 3 days a week for the same amount we are paying for one kid to go to daycare 3 days a week.
