I always hated those things then with a dd who ran i thought about getting it and even told her about it.
Are you bringing the stroller just in case she gets tired? If so you can try this:

stroller handle for toddlers

We just got it for our stroller and DD loves being able to have some freedom.

DD is just trying to test the waters lately with running away from me when we are out in public and I let her walk. I could completely see how the harness can come in handy in certain situations. I have such anxiety about DD getting lost.

Buy it and bring it with you. If you need it, you have it to use.

hell yerah. I'd put him on a straight up dog leash if it would keep him safe.

Absolutely! I also very rarely give a rats tush about what people think though.

I like the wrist to wrist one. I want to get one but DH is not into it.

We have the Elmo one. My DS was always sort of proud of it so it was easy to use. Just so you know, I often held his hand anyway. I felt that if he tried to pull away quickly while on the harness, he could call flat on his face. Still, the harness made it so that when holding his hand I was not pulling him by the wrist. He seemed pretty content and he seemed to know that he had to stay near me. My fear of him falling may have been totally unfounded. It is GREAT to have it as long as you are a parent who knows that it is no substitute for supervision. We brought it on vacation but by then he was older and we were not using it much. It is easy enough to throw it into a duffle back or a backpack.

If you don't mind me asking, is there a reason you don't want to use one? I mean, is it because they are 'frowned' upon?

I don't know, it's kinda embarassing I guess? Chat Icon But i'm considering one now, so whatever works![/QUOTE

I would use one, who cares what everyone else thinks. You know your dd and if she won't sit in the stroller, its much safer for her to be attached t the backpack than breaking free and running all over!! I say get one at least that you can bring it with you if the stroller doesn't work out.

I would get whatever you need to make sure they're not off & running. It amazes me how quickly they can take off.

I agree.

We have not needed it, but I can totally see using one in a place like WDW.

Also, I would rather my child walk as much as possible and just keep the stroller on reserve for when they are too tired to walk. It's good exercise and they enjoy it so much more.

I'm so for using a harness! Whenever needed use it. I don't care what others say, or how they view it. They don't have to make sure my kids are safe, I do! It's a tool to keep them safe. No different then a crib, stroller, highchair, etc. I'm not real crazy about the animal backpack types. They are cute and all, and I know the kids like them. Makes parents feel better too, when it looks more like a toy. Use whatever works best for you and your kids, bottom line.
I like the plan harnesses, like with the Velcro in back, Elmo, Jeep, Safety First, etc. I think they are much more secure, kids can't remove it themselves. And if you are going to be in a place like Disney, where you will have them walking mostly, and sometimes in the stroller (when they crash) and on and off rides. I think the plan harnesses are more comfortable for the kids, instead of that bulky monkey, puppy, whatever on their back. Not fun having to sit back with that on. The plan harness can stay on all day, where ever they go, standing, sitting, when they want to get wet. And if there are any qualms about the kids wearing one, throwing a fit, sitting down, arguing? My thing is to leave it to them, you can wear the harness and be good or, we leave now! It works for me. If you want to, need to use one, use it! if not and you don't need to, that's fine too, but kids are precious and need to be safe.

I would get it to have with you and not worry about what anyone thinks. You will not be the only person with a harness on your child and if it makes your life easier, and Sienna happier, who cares what anyone thinks.

I would get it - it doesn't mean you HAVE to use it - but if you have then it is an OPTION for you. I brought one to WDW when DD#1 was 15 months - she would sit on the ground when you tried to hold her hand - or fight like you were kidnapping her if you tried to get her into the stroller and she didn't want to get in (to the point people would stop and think we were taking her...LOL). I never used it. I tried for like 1 minute she would run and it would pull her back and I felt it wasn't safe. BUT I had it as an option. I would say you have to do what keeps your child safe. You can bring it and throw it in the stroller and IF she needs it you have it if not - it doesn't take up much room anyway.

Re: Child harness (leash) backpack... wdyt? I'm torn!

My sister used one for my Godson, 16 years ago, in Disney when he was walking age and I always thought that I would too in a public crowded place like that. I was lost at the Bronx Zoo when I was 4/5 for what seemed like hours but was only minutes so I'm not taking any chances with DS. I would use one.

I was also going to suggest, similar to the stroller leash posted above, something I just came across on a blog yesterday and was thinking of making one myself. It was called a toddler bag handle and is basically a fabric strap with a loop at each end. You can do the slip loop thing on your diaper bag, purse, belt loop, stroller or just hold it yourself. And DC holds the other end. I suppose you could make it as long as you want/need and also make one loop with velcro to put around DC's wrist.

I just liked the holding tether idea as DS does sometimes squirm to hold hands. And I just got a 21 month old email that suggests letting DC lead you for a walk around the block. I thought this would be a good time to test this strap out.

Here's the blog with a tutorial on how to make it.

After that is all said and done, in Disney, I'd still go with a harness leash. Chat Icon

You know I used one last week at Disney, and honestly, we didn't use it everyday but when we did, DD loved wearing a backpack Chat Icon (and DD happy = the rest of us are happy Chat Icon ) and I don't think anyone batted an eye...if they did I didn't notice. There were other kids there with them too, lots of older kids in strollers...I don't think anyone cares there about that stuff because its crowded, hot, you need patience and want to be safe...so no judgement Chat Icon

I have 2... One is a monkey. DS loves it. And I get a lot of great comments about it. The other is just a regular one. Easier for when I have to take him in and out of the stroller. Better safe then sorry...My cousin was 2.5 when we used one with her and it saved her life. As we were getting ready to cross a busy street, she slipped her hand out of mine and darted towards the street. I was able to hold her back with the harness...Buy one, take it with you. There is nothing wrong with them. You may get someone who says something, but you are protecting your child. Come up with some witty comeback and shut them up!!! Chat Icon
