Dog Diabetes?
Hello
I just found out today my dog has diabetes. She is a five year old Cavalier King Charles. It came out of no where. About a week ago she was drinking triple the amount of water she used to drink and was having accidents every night. I took her to the vet yesterday and he just told me she has diabetes and I have to give her injections and change her diet.
I am so upset right now. Does anyone else have a dog with diabetes or has gone through it? Is it really bad? How hard is to give injections?
Thank you, I really appreciate it. My other dog died suddenly from cancer almost six months ago so I just feel like I must have done something wrong to both of them.. I know I didn't but I just feel that way.

Re: Dog Diabetes?
My 9 Yr old Cavalier was JUST diagnosed with this a few weeks ago...I am giving him insulin 2xs a day and he is doing better...he just went back for a check up and we had to adjust his dosage...he goes back in 3 weeks for a follow up...he also has some immunity issues so they aren't sure which caused which...Cavaliers apparently are prone to this...hang in there!!
ETA: the injections aren't too bad...my dog is so mellow with stuff...i've found shooting him in the scruff of the neck to be the least bothersome. The vet also recommended that i do it while he eats so he's a bit distracted
here's a link to my post and some responses I got...it helped to know other's experiences! Diabetes...

Re: Dog Diabetes?
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. Your dog looks just like mine!!
So far the shots haven't been so bad, she hasn't seemed to notice. I'm just happy that she is still acting like herself. I am taking her for a glucose curve next week... are they expensive?
