Bathroom tile: are glossy tiles outdated?
I really can't decide what look to go for in my bathroom as far as tile goes. I know I want a traditional look. Cabinetry and faucets are ordered and keep with a traditional look.
It is the damn tile I can't decide. Trying to pick between subway porcelain tile that has a glossy/crackle finish. Or do I go with porcelain/travertine tile that has that stone look. I know everyone does the stone look now but will that eventually look dated???? Do you think glossy tile screams 70's grandma bathroom?
HELP!

I think square glossy tile are a bit outdated unless they are "glass".
But a regular subway tile. No, I don't think this is outdated. It's actually making a come back.

Re: Bathroom tile: are glossy tiles outdated?
We gutted our bathroom last year and put in traditional fixtures and subway tile in the shower area. We got the glossy ones because they looked more authentic. I prefer that look and think it looks fantastic!

Re: Bathroom tile: are glossy tiles outdated?
I am planning a bathroom make over & I getting glossy white subway tile.
The natural stone look is nice, and very neutral--it is hard to say if it will be out of date in 20 years, but I lived in pre-war building with the original subway tile & it didn't look dated to me.
You could also go with honed Carrara marble subway tile---it is less shiny, a fancier look & a more expensive, but also beautiful & classic.

Agreed. I prefer the natural stone look myself. But you can't go wrong with a classic white subway tile. You definitely have to be careful with what glossy tile you pick because many of them do look dated....

Subway tiles are making come backs all over the place. However I have been looking at Subway tiles in every bathroom I ever had in my homes for over 40 years and if I never see another one, I'd be fine with it.

I SO HEAR YOU!
Every single bathroom I've ever had, in my parents house, in my apartments, they all had that 4x4 shiny colored tile, one was pink, another peach, another blue, another beige and even in my house that i've been in a yr, it has those same tiles in brown.
So over them.
I do agree I like the look of the true subway tile - my cousin has them - very pottery barn and very nice look.
