Anyone not getting bedding?
Several BTDT mom have told me that they never even used the bedding, it was just for decoration. So I'm thinking of passing on the bedding - but then other people say I NEED it to complete the nursery. Am I crazy to not buy a fancy bedding set?

No you are smart!!!
I used the bumpers from the bedding set and thats it! The quilt is collecting dust and was big $$. You can buy pieces seperately and spend alot less $$

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
Although a crib set is very cute, I've been thinking about not getting one as well. I'll probably just get breathable bumpers and some cute sheets.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I did not get a bedding set because I couldn't find anything I liked since we are team green . I ended up getting a plain, yellow gingham bumper, crib skirt and window valance from target and I absoltuely love it!

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
you are smart... but I couldn't resist! We bought the quilt and bumper (yes, the two pieces you really don't need) from a set I loved on clearance. We are mixing and matching the other pieces which luckily our set really lends itself to. We are registering for the zipper crib sheets, a colored dust ruffle, and one patterned sheet that coordinates. No other accessories. It's working out to be pretty reasonable and for what I ended up spending on the quilt and bumpers, I dont mind if the quilt is only draped over the glider and the bumpers aren't in all the time.
(this is a big improvement from the $1600 bedding set I initially fell in love with!)

We didn't buy a bedding set. We just bought lots of cute sheets. We did buy all the non bedding accessories we could for a pattern we liked - mobile, hamper, diaper stacker, wall decorations

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I wound up returning the bedding set we originally bought and I'm just going with a crib skirt and some funky sheets.
I also had a hard time finding a bedding set that I really loved so it was an easy decision.
Target has some good crib skirts.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I got the entire bedding set from target for $99. its beautiful. It came with dust ruffle, bumpers and sheet. They also sell separates like quilts and window treatments to match.
For that price, I dont mind if we use all of it or not, or if it get's ruined. Check there!

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I'm just getting a crib skirt and sheets. I have storage bins under the baby's crib for now so the skirt is a must have for us.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I'm starting to lean more to just crib sheets and a cute crib skirt. I don't know what I would do with the qults, and a plushy bumper would have to come off after 3 or so months anway.
I dunno, I'm still so torn.....

I did the same thing, minus the hamper and diaper stacker. I did get the main pieces of the set I loved (mobile, changing pad cover, crib sheet, plush stuffed animal--I couldn't resist!) but I left out items that would be unnecessary. Instead, we registered for cute, colorful crib sheets and changing pad sheets that match the crib set pattern. Nurseries can still be super cute regardless of whether you get a crib set or not. I personally think it all depends on creativity!

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
i did not with my son because i was planning my own theme - i did it afther the book 'make wa for the duckilings" and it ended up beign cheaper - i found great accessories - and with my crib a crib skirt would look weird - i never bothered with bumpers - just got some cute sheets - and found fun decorations for the room - etsy has tons of stuff
you don't need to buy a crib set and i won't with these two either

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
Its actually a smart idea since you can't even use the quilt and bumpers. I did get the bedding anyway though because I couldn't resist. Its more for decorative purposes but for that alone it was worth it. Plus I didn't pay for it so that was also a bonus.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I think it's a wise decision not to. We didn't get a set because there were so many pieces in the 6 piece set that we weren't going to use. So we ick and chose what we wanted and got them separately. We knew we weren't going to use bumpers, the quilt, the sheets that came with it, or the crib skirt. We just got the throw (as decoration for early on, and then to be used as a blanket later), and then some of the decorative things- wall hangings, wall border, switchplate, rug, all to go with the theme.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
Thanks for all the input! I think I'll just get the things I need, crib skirt, sheets, and then the matching non-bed accessories.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I had initially planned NOT to get bedding. I think its a complete waste of money and I can think of 10 other things Id rather have for the price. Plus Im not a theme-y person anyways.
I happened to find a set for $39.00 at Marshall's so I bought it but I still wont be using all of it. Most likely the crib skirt and sheets. I will use a breathable bumper pad.
You can find an adorable quilt on Etsy.com and solid sheets for a fraction of the price.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I don't think so. I was just saying to my mom yesterday I feel it's a waste since we won't even be using most of the stuff that comes in a set.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
We didnt do a bedding set either, just got a bunch of cute sheets and the breathable bumpers. I even skipped the skirt because I personally liked the way lit looked without it and I'd have to take it off when I lower the mattress anyway (on my crib at least).

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I registered for the bedding set and got it at my shower and DH & I love it. Although we are using everything it came with, so that might be why I feel this way. It came with a window valance, crib sheet, bed skirt, bumpers, blanket and diaper stacker. The only thing we are probably not going to use is the blanket, but we are using everything else.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
I'm actually going to sell the crib bedding set I got because I don't foresee myself using it enough. I got a soft chenille blanket as a top blanket and breathable bumpers.

Re: Anyone not getting bedding?
Not getting the bedding, I personally think it's a waste of money for someone to get it for us (we're in a 1 br. apt so it's not even like we need it to fit a theme). I would much rather have something he'll actually get use out of for that money.
My cousins handed down a really cute Winnie the Pooh bedding set to us, so we'll be using different things from their set.
