Is anyone thinking of NOT getting a bedding set?

To me, crib bedding sets are such a waste. You can't use the blanket and you have to take the bumpers out for breathable bumpers as soon as they move around the crib. It seems so impractical to buy a set when the only pieces that would be used would be the fitted sheet and dust ruffle.

BTDT moms, did you find it useful to have a full set? I would rather spend money on other things than have all the extra bed set pieces we can't use just lying around.

I didn't register for one b/c lots of BTDT moms said the same thing to me. Take the money and go splurge on something else!

although there are so many cute bedding sets out there, we won't be getting one. for the same reasons you listed..... you really can't use much out of it bc it's not really safe. it's too bad they don't have more designs and options with the breathable bumpers and dust ruffles!!

We won't be getting one. I fell in love with a sheet set from Serena and Lily so we'll just be getting crib sheets and a simple crib skirt. I'm not comfortable using a bumper and I felt the blankets were useless because you can't use them either.

We are team green so I have sheets picked out for a boy and girl and will purchase after the baby comes.

I will not be getting one. I want to use breathable bumpers and you can't really use the quilt that comes in a set. For me it doesn't make sense.

I have a question, when would you have to start using the breathable bumpers? Obviously you said when the baby starts to move, but when do they start to move on average?

This is my 3rd baby, and I won't be getting one or using the one I have. I just need some new sheets.

Re: Is anyone thinking of NOT getting a bedding set?

My SIL says she uses the quilt now that her DD is older. So it definitely wasn't a total waste as far as that goes.

I agree about the bumper. Maybe you can repurpose it if you have one.

I registered for one that's pretty inexpensive from target but only because I love the colors and the accessories that go with it (the rug and the hamper and diaper bag) but if I don't get it or don't get parts of it, I won't go out and purchase them on my own. I'll just make do with sheets and the breathable bumper. I wasn't even going to register for one, but then I saw one that I just loved. It's kinda something people like to get you, but I agree that it can be a waste of money.

we didn't get one for DD#1 and won't get for this one, either.

in her crib, we have:

- the mattress protector
- sheet
- breathable bumper
- crib skirt (just because it's Tulle and looks so freakin' cute Chat Icon Chat Icon ).

I hate bedding sets- so pointless to me.

Re: Is anyone thinking of NOT getting a bedding set?

I was just talking about this with my DH this morning. I was telling him that once the baby is ready to move from the cradle to the crib we have to remove the bumpers, the blanket, etc. I realized as I was saying this out loud that it is really pointless to get a set. This is JUST MY opinion. Although I love how it looks now, I'll be picking it apart once the baby is ready to sleep in her crib.

For DS we got a bedding set & I honestly think we should have went without it. Like you said, we never used the blanket , took the bumpers out once he started rolling over and never used the diaper stacker except for decoration basically. All I really needed was some sheets, and bedskirt. Which could have been bought separately.

Re: Is anyone thinking of NOT getting a bedding set?

I've seen people repurpose the bumpers from bedding sets as valances by removing the padding.

That said, we didn't get a bedding set for DD1 or this baby, just the sheets and a crib skirt, plus valance. DD1 was happy to pick out her toddler bedding set though

Re: Is anyone thinking of NOT getting a bedding set?

as a BTDT mom with #2 I'm not getting a bedding set. I feel like they are such a waste and the majority of the set you don't use.

This time around I'm sticking to a certain color pattern and trying to buy sheets and blankets with those colors.

Re: Is anyone thinking of NOT getting a bedding set?

We did get one with DD#1 and will not be getting one this time around. End of the day it was a waste. We never used the bumpers and the quilt just hung over the glider....honestly IMO there is no point. You are better off with the breathable bumpers and some nice sheets.

Re: Is anyone thinking of NOT getting a bedding set?

I had my shower yesterday and got the bedding set.. I was staring at it last night and think I am going to return it. I got extra fitted sheets and breatheable bumpers as well.. I really don't think I need the bedding set. It was a gift from my MIL though, so not sure if that would insult her.

Re: Is anyone thinking of NOT getting a bedding set?

I didn't get them. I had originally registered for them and then took them off thinking that the money would be better spend on more useful things. I've never missed them, won't be getting one for this baby either.
