Who didn't/isn't planning to take any baby classes?
I was scheduled to take a 6-hour class through my OB office, but I wound up on bedrest. I had planned to still go anyway, but the day before the class, my cervix was so short it was non-measurable and I was told to get my butt home and into bed. So I missed out on the class.
Now, I'm 36w3d and starting to mildly panic that I don't know how to handle a baby. I don't know how to change a diaper, or breastfeed, or um, anything.
Am I screwed? Will the kind nurses in the hospital show me how to do these things?

I had watched the laugh and learn videos with my first, but the nurses in the hospital were very helpful too! and they offered a free parenting class everyday. Besides, I don't think any class can truly prepare you!

We didn't. Only took the mandatory c-section class and a tour. I'm sure your nurses will be very helpful if you need them, but you'll do just fine on your own!!

We did and I wish we didn't. In my case knowledge was not power and it just served to make me anxious.

Re: Who didn't/isn't planning to take any baby classes?
I didnt take any class, and I am not the most maternal person. I was told to push, and I pushed, no class needed. And trust me, you will know EXACTLY what to do when your baby is born. It's crazy, innate almost. I was always awkward holding a newborn, changing diapers, burping etc. But when she was born, it was like I knew how to do it all along. You will figure it all out immediately without a doubt, it really is amazing.
And the nurses will show you everything, dont worry.

We are not taking a class. I'm a big fan of the wing and a prayer method. The real reason we aren't taking it is because I'm a chicken and I think ignorance is bliss.
Millions of women did it for years without classes...I'm sure I'll make it.

No class happening here. Just don't feel the need for it.
We're doing the mandatory c-section class at good sam, and that's it.

Re: Who didn't/isn't planning to take any baby classes?
I was going to take only a brestfeeding class to learn more about breast feeding twins but I ended up on bedrest too so now I cant take anything.
Once your baby comes, ur natural instincts will kick right in and you will know exactly how to change and burp and feed ur baby. Besides the nurses at the hospital help you out a lot the 1st couple of days that you are there. Don't freak out. Back in the day the classes didn't exist and all our parents did fine

Re: Who didn't/isn't planning to take any baby classes?
The nurses before and after giving birth were so helpful. I didn't take lamaze, so when I was in labor, the nurses were telling me how to breathe. It was fine. I think , for me, the baby class wasn't necessary.

Re: Who didn't/isn't planning to take any baby classes?
I never took a class when I was pregnant with DS#1. Thought about it, but then I heard from my mommy friends that took it that it didn't do anything for them, so I didn't.

Thanks everyone! I feel a little better about things. Don't be surprised if I start posting on the Parenting board at 4:00 a.m. asking how to change a diaper.

I never did any classes-the nurses at NSUH will show you how to do everything! They also have classes in the nursery for the new mommies.
I knew nothing about caring for a baby-by the time I left the hospital I was a pro

Re: Who didn't/isn't planning to take any baby classes?
We took a birthing/prep class at Good Sam, but really more because I wanted the tour of the hospital.
I knew how to change a diaper, but DH didn't...so he got to do that in class.
We were supposed to take the mandatory c-section class, but they didn't offer it anytime DH could make it because of work....they let me pick up the video and "take the class" (aka watch the video) at home....i think it mostly made me anxious!
You'll get the hang of it...my best friend didn't take any classes, and was a tomboy her whole childhood, so she never played with dolls or anything...and she is the BEST mom!

Re: Who didn't/isn't planning to take any baby classes?
We did not and are good...the nurses ares fabulous and we had tbe hospital lactation consultants come..I think it would have made me anxious to know too much...I didn't even know when I was going to be induced...I went to the dr. And he said..today's the day!

ITA!! We are not taking any classes. We asked our doctor if we should take lamaze and he was actually not in favor of it, he said he will be there with me the whole time and help me through everything. He also said that the nurses will help me learn how to breastfeed so I don't need that class either.
I really think you will be ok and jump right into being the perfect mother to your LO

I never took a class..the nurses showed me how to push. It also just comes naturally at that moment, at least for me it did.
After the baby is born they have classes for you to take. You will catch on quickly. GL
