Runners: warm weather essentials?
I started running in the late fall. I ran through icy winds and snow. I loved it. I spent a good deal of time doing research on and a fair amount of money on gear made specifically for cold weather running.
Now it's heating up and I have never run in the spring/summer before. I start training fir a 10k next week and I wanted to know from the "pros" on this board what should I invest in for warm weather runs?
Also, now that I will be training, I have to use a stopwatch/timer a lot more (intervals) should I invest in one if those wrist things? I'm so embarrassed, I don't even k ow what they're technically called. I just find timing myself w the iPhone cumbersome.
One more thing. Because I ran all winter, I never really had to stop for water. How do you carry water w you while you run and time yourself? Maybe I need a partner.

You want to get some wicking tanks and bras. Shorts are a must, but I wear any kind for those. Just realize that some, like the target c9, do ride up.
I don't carry water for runs unless it is insanely hot or I'm running longer than 30 minutes. I have a park with a water fountain near my house. If we are running someplace else, I have a nathan handheld.
I do have a cheap garmin watch, but for me, I pretty much use my timex ironman. It has a timer and it also has an interval timer.

I love my garmin watch! I have the forerunner 205 (the cheap model) and it works great (a little bulky but I love it). You should be able to find it online for $80-90.
I highly reccomend two important things for the heat:
GLIDE!! You can get it at Dicks Sporting Goods or any running store. Just rub it on to prevent chaffing.
Also, in similiar fashion, bicycle shorts. I sometimes wear them under my regular running shorts because they are longer so they help prevent chaffing in between my thighs.
Worst part of running in the summer can be chaffing if you don't take precautionary measures.

If you are not looking to spend a lot of money, you should get a GYMBOSS for your intervals. I haven't used it my self but I am ordering one for myself this week. There are 2 models - one for $20 and one for $30.
You basically set the intervals that you want to do and then it will beep and/or vibrate to let you when each interval starts/ends. No need to keep looking at a stop watch. I can't wait to try it!

I wear the "bicycle" shorts to prevent chafing - it's the only problem spot for me - so this eliminates that.
wicking tanks are a must.
a good hat (I like a visor in the summer)
I have a fuel belt for a run that's over an hour.

I agree! I don't like to wear sunglasses, so a ballcap is a must.
I get a lot of my tops from Marshalls...they sell lots of different styles. I always try to get light colors for the summer.
