Question about HIIT
I've been trying to ease my way into doing HIIT on the elliptical b/c I am tired of just doing the regular old 30 mins on it.
I watched a video on it and I'm just confused about one thing....how long are you supposed to go for?
The video I watched was a guy on a treadmill who started at an 8 and went full on for 30 secs. then brought it down to a 6 for a 2 min. cool down. How long do you do that for? Is 30 mins too long or does it matter?
I've been doing 2.5 min intervals at a 8-9 full on and then a 3 mins cool down at about a 6-7 but doing that for 30 mins is killing me. I understand how to time the intervals now but how long do I do it for?
TIA!

Re: Question about HIIT
I usually do my HIIT cardio for between 20-30 minutes but definitely no more than 30. From what I have read, 20 min is kinda a golden number for HIIT. I find that once I start going past 30 minutes I am just so exhausted that my intervals never seem to be as great.

Perfect! I know I couldn't go past 30 mins like that so it works out good. Thanks!

No prob. I usually do a 5 minute warm up and then sprints 30 seconds on 60 seconds off! After 30 minutes I am a mess!

Re: Question about HIIT
The longest I've done HIIT was 40 minutes and could barely walk the next day!
I think 30 minutes is a good thing...if you're pushing yourself hard enough you probably shouldn't be able to do more than 30 minutes!

Oh no!! Wow! I'm pretty sure I would't be able to do more than 30 anyway.

What is HIIT?
High Intensity Interval Training.
It's basically giving everything you have (pushing yourself beyond your limits) for a certain amount of time and alternating that with resting for a certain amount of time. It's a quick, fast paced workout.
