Girls who have had 3+ miscarriages

I had my 3rd mc yesterday.

My 1st was a missed mc at 14 weeks. I had seen a strong hb 3x.

My 2nd had a very weak hb and then it just stopped at 9w.

After that, DH and I both had a full work up- they could not find anything wrong with either of us. They tested the tissue after my d&c and it came back with chromosomal abmnormalitles.

Then I had my DD, everything was fine. Dr tested my progesterone immediately and levels were fine.

Yesterday I mc again at about 6w.

I feel like I don't know what I should do-I've had all the tests done. If I went through it all again, would they really be able to tell me anything different?

Should I see a specialist even though my problem isn't getting pregnant, it's the sticking part? Would they be able to do anything for me? I don't know what my next move should be.

Thanks in advance for any insight or advice.

Re: Girls who have had 3+ miscarriages

so sorry.
I girl in my office also had three miscarriages, and she said till this day she never got any answers as to why, other than chromosonal abnormalties. She too had no problem getting pregnant. On a positive note, she does have two healthy boys now.
I wish you the best.

i'm so so sorry for your losses.....i know how heartbreaking it is Chat Icon

i have had 3 losses....none of which were similar to yours though.....my first was a termination for medical reasons because the baby had severe, abnormalities at 12 weeks and was not going to survive, the second was an ectopic that resulted in a removal of my right tube, and the last was a chemical. even though i had NO problems getting pregnant (3 times in about 16 months), i can't stay pregnant. i was told by several doctors that they were all random occurrences and that we had "bad luck". my OBGYN ran a recuurent miscarriage panel and said it came back ok. still, i felt that couldn't be the end of it. i needed more answers.

a few months ago we went to see dr. braverman. i was hesitant b/c i asked the same thing you did "i can get pregnant so what is he gonna do for me?" i'm not pregnant yet, however, dr. braverman did WAY more testing than my OB. he runs all sorts of immunological testing and also looks for a million other things. he found that while i have no immune issues, i do have a slow thyroid and a resistance to insulin. he said there is no way to be sure, but definitely both things COULD have led to my inability to hold a pregnancy.

only time will tell. sorry to make this so long, but i thought it might help to hear my story (that hopefully will have happy ending soon!). i definitely think if your insurance will cover it then it's worth seeing an dr. braverman or any RE. dr. braverman has an awesome website and he even will answer questions from the message board......i hope you find some answers Chat Icon Chat Icon

So very sorry for your loss.

Yes, go straight to a specialist. No question about that. After having 3 miscarriages the statistics increase dramatically with the chances of having another. I myself have had 3 and 2 chemicals.

I wouldn't just go to ANY speciailist, I'd go to Dr. Braverman. Amongst other issues, he deals with recurrent pregnancy loss. He does extensive testing that OBs and other REs do not do. It may be as simple as taking a pill once a day. You'll be in great hands, I promise.

So sorry again. Chat Icon

Re: Girls who have had 3+ miscarriages

I am so sorry for your loss. Multiple losses is a group that nobody wasnt to be a member of.

I had two miscarriages before my DD. One was a chemical, the other passed on its own and therefore we did not have testing done. I had 3rd miscarriage before my DS that required a D and C. Truth be told, DH and I did NOT want to know why it happened, but we were told anyway - Trisomy 16. I had the Ashkenazi panel before we got married and we were both tested after my second miscarriage - not a thing showed up. The reason why we did not want to know, was because we felt that we had a healthy baby once, we could do it again. We did. However, had i had a fourth miscarriage, I more than likely would have stopped TTC.

Re: Girls who have had 3+ miscarriages

I have not been in your shoes but can honestly say I would see a specialist at this point...it cannot hurt right?

I have only had 1 miscarriage but may see a specialist and have some bloods done. I am undecided at this point (I posted about it on the IF board) - prob should have posted here though!

Re: Girls who have had 3+ miscarriages

Oh and one more thing to add...when you do get pregnant again they will monitor you very closely for the first few weeks! I feel like that will help give you piece of mind that you did all you could do - you know?

I agree with this. I had no problem getting pregnant but had 2 losses back to back; both had HBs. The first cycle after being treated by Dr B I got pregnant and that resulted in my DD.

Good luck!! Chat Icon

Re: Girls who have had 3+ miscarriages

I have had 5 losses over a period of 4 years. I did have twins via IVF in the middle there. My issue is either immune or tubal..I still don't know as I treated for both. I would say to see Dr. Braverman as well. He's your best bet on LI.

Thanks so much ladies. I got a referral from my OB to go see Dr. Stelling. I'm out east, so i'm going to try him out before I see Dr. B. I am going to remain hopeful!

Re: Girls who have had 3+ miscarriages

I saw an RE after my 3rd MC. Mine all occured within 6 mos and went like this:
TTC1: MC 4 wks
TTC2 (next cycle): MC 4-5 wks
TTC3 (skipped cycle and got PG 2nd cycle trying): MC 6-7wks
Skipped a cycle and then started a monitored cycle with an RE. Figured even if it happened again he might be able to gain insight as to WHY. Had an HSG that cycle. Was supposed to go in for an ovridel shot but was on vaca so RE told us to BD anyway when I got a + on OPK. Got PG and it stuck. She's 10 mos old now. We still have no idea WHY.

I dont think it hurts to go Chat Icon Chat Icon
