How do I get my almost 2 year old evaluated for speech delay?

My daughter is almost 2 and says very few words. I think its time to have her evaluated. I have heard that I can do this for free in Nassau county, but I can't seem to figure out how. Anyone know what to do or who to call?

We just went through this with my 19 month old. There was a number for the county to call for EI services. They took my info, and gave it to a case worker who called and scheduled an appointment with me.

We are in Suffolk, but I'm sure Nassau works very similarly. Good luck!

if you're in Nassau google Nassau County Early Intervention ( I dont have the direct # on hand). You call and set up an appt with a service coordinator and they will come and have your child evaluated. If you qualify, you can receive speech, phys therapy and/or occup ther.
Just a tip.... If they deny you services the first evaulation you can have your child re-evaluated every 3 months. This happened with my daughter. She was denied at first and I kept calling and had her re-evaluated and now she receives services. It's sad but the system is really flooded so sometimes you have to fight to get the services.
