NYC Marathon
Anyone get in through the lottery? I didn't get in through the lottery last year, but I still ran it with Autism Speaks. It was such an amazing experience! I didn't get in through the lottery again this year, but I think I'm going to sign up with Autism Speaks again! I wasn't going to run it again since it really put my body through hell lol, but I really want to try for a better time. Plus its a great cause and I raised $3000 last year (you have to commit to raising $2600). Hopefully I can make as much this year! I think I'm going to sign up with them tomorrow. Anyone else "IN"?

Re: NYC Marathon
not me...I was OK with it, since I can't run it this year and I would have deferred.
There are so many other great marathons - would you consider a different one?

i feel that! i didn't get in this year BUT i did it last year for the 5th time and it was the ultimate challenge b/c i had a 1yr old and 3 yr old and i work f/t. i had to choose simply finishing it over finishing it with an amazing time. i didn't care if it took me 3 hrs or 6-i just wanted to prove i could do it even though i'm a mom! LOL it was very hard but i had a lot of family support and could not have trained w/o it. my DH was on board and accepted the fact that i would be out weekend mornings running long. my sister did this with me and so her teenage kids and my mom took turns watching my kids for our weekly 5am runs since DH is out of the house by 5am! it was a pain in the neck but worth it as i'm sure you know! good luck with whatever you do!

Re: NYC Marathon
Thanks - my biggest challenge is convincing DH to support me doing this. The last time I did it, we had no children yet. I just feel that I want to do it one more time. The first time, I was out to just finish with a conservative goal time - which I missed by 3 minutes!! Now that I did it once, I know what I would do differently and want to try it again. I don't mind the early am runs, I do that now anyway...it's just the wear and tear of running 20 milers and not wanting to do much that day I run! That's great you did it, congratulations!! You gave me some hope that it can be done with 2 toddlers!!

Congrats, that is great!! I told my brother to do that charity, he wants to do the marathon, but didn't get in. How tough was it to fundraise, he is concerned he won't be able to do it. Any suggestions on how to raise it and do they have any other requirements with the charity? thanks....

You can do it! I did it when my kids were 1.5 and 3.5! DH is key! I also dropped off at my parents sometimes for the 20 milers (but really there are so few of them) and would run from their house.

I thought it would be hard too. I actually ended up getting a lot of donations just by posting it on facebook and sending out mass emails. They email you a handbook and it has a long list of ideas on how to fundraise. There are no other commitments to the charity. They do a really nice team dinner the night before at the Hard Rock Cafe, plus they provide transportation from Manhattan if needed. It worked out really well last year!

Thanks for the encouragement. I am going to really think about it. I need to make a decision by July. Nice to hear it's doable with toddlers.

I didn't get in, but I'm okay with it because I've been struggling with some foot issues and it probably wouldn't have been the best idea for me right now. Good luck to all of you who are in!!!
