When did you start taking baby to the beach?

DD is a little over a month old and I'm wondering if we'll be able to bring her to the beach this year. Who knows if I'll even want to show my face on a beach this summer, but that's a different story At what age did you first take LO to the beach?

DS was born in April. We did not take DS to the beach that first summer.

I think the 2 things you need to be careful about are:

1) sun exposure - dr.s typically recommend no sunscreen on babies younger than 6 mos.

and

2) heat exhaustion & dehydration.


As long as you keep your infant covered and hydrated, you should be ok.

DD was born in June almost 2 years ago I remember that summer we didn't take her to the beach but she did go outside in the shade all summer my parents have a pool so we lived at there house

DD was a January baby so she was about 6 months when we took her. As long as you have an umbrella or some other sort of shade source and its not too hot its fine for a short time.

DS1 was a May baby and DS2 was a March baby...both went to the beach after 1 year. So we took them their second summer.

DD was born end of June last year- we didn't take her last year- just stayed in the yard by the pool.

This year we are going to try it.

I was worried about the sun- no sunscreen before 6 months and keeping her covered was hard-she'd get hot fast

Plus she was a BAD BAD newborn so we never even took her to the supermaket...so the beach wuold not have been enjoyable at the time

DS was born the end of May. Did not take him that first summer, but we spent time at my IL's pool. He went in the shade in a cool spot (as long as the weather allowed). If it was too hot we stayed in.

First time on the beach was when he was close to 9 months we went to Aruba. He wanted to eat the sand

DS was born in April we didnt take him last year...this will be his first 'real' summer!

my DD was born in June and we had her on the beach in July, we had a tent for her to keep the sun out and kept her hydrated and cool. We were at the beach for probably about 2 hours the first time. We took her probably once a week that summer, but kept her covered, since she didn't have sunscreen on. I have an older DD also and there was no way we could stay in all the time so we did what we had to do and made sure our LO was covered and out of the sun. We were either at the beach or someone's pool all summer long.

We took DD to the beach at 6 months - she was born in January.

DS was at the beach at 6 weeks (born in June) but he spent most of his time under my nursing cover anyway.

This year is going to be exhausting at the beach with both of them running around.

my boys will be going to the beach for the first time next week.
they are now 1 .

they were born last april but we felt that summer was too early to take them. so this should be fun!

He was born june 12th and went to the beach at 3 weeks old. we're beach people with all the accesories. we have a large 8x8 tent and a small one for the baby. We did fine.

ds 1 was 11 months DS 2 will be 14 months

DS was 9 months the 1st time he went. But we always took him early int he morning or dinner time, so it wasnt to hot

shes 7 mos now and I plan on bringing her to the beach and bringing this thingy....

My DD was born April 20th and I brought her to the beach her first summer...we wouldn't go on the hottest days and we had a little tent and umbrella with SPF...we often went in the afternoons and ate dinner there.

My daughter is 4 months and no sunscreen until 6 months, so i'm thinking about the same thing. Right now I have the SPF sunhat, bathing suit and rash guard and i always keep her canopy over her head. Not sure if we'll hit the beach, but maybe little pool parties. I say keep them covered, out of sun during peak hours and hopefully enjoy a little bit of it until next year.

DS is a Jan baby and we took him all the time last summer so he started going a little before five months.

DS was born in November and we will be at the beach this summer. We have a huge umbrella and baby tent. We also have a cabana so I will be able to get him out of the sun during the day.

Last summer DD was 7 months and we went often. Kept her under the tent or with a hat on if we went in the water. She loved it

You can totally bring DC. It takes a lot of gear though. Hats, tents, umbrellas.

I got a tent but, my friend had this awesome tent that the baby could sleep in. FM CSorisi. It had a little matress and was much easier to use than the one that I had. She also had this great chair called the Babysitter. It was great. it folded flat that the baby sat in it. You just need umbrellas or a shade awning thing and lots of fluids. Between the noise and the fresh air Liam slept so nice! Now at two, I think I will be chasing him up and down the beach all summer long!!! Enjoy it while you can.

Both Csorisi and I had kids at the same time (late april and early may) So we did it. Just the two of us all summer.

Bad mommy here - DD was born end of June last year and it was hottest summer around here...so humid. I had her at the beach a few times at just a few weeks old.
It was at a cabana at a beach club though - I didn't use sunscreen, kept her in her infant car seat in the snap-n-go - layed a towel under her and kept her under an overhang - completely out of the sun and there was a ceiling fan above her.
I had her there on some really hot days - honestly looking back I shouldn't have...it was too hot. I was just a hormonal mess and needed to get out and see my family. She was fine though.

DS was born in December and we first took him at 5 months when we were on vacation in Myrtle Beach. We went late in the day and kept him on a blanket under an umbrella. It was great - the waves lulled him to sleep so he napped.

It's a lot easier to take a small baby - when we took DS at 7 1/2 months, he would pull the blanket so he'd end up in the sand and it was miserable. I'm hoping he'll stay on the blanket more this year because he hates the feeling of dirt on his hands.

DD was born in the beginning on July. I spent my entire maternity leave at out beach house. We brought her to the beach a lot. I spoke to our doctor about it and he said it was fine.
We made sure to go in afternoon when sun it not so strong.
She loved it. She would sleep so nicely on the beach. I was napping with her too.
