Waist to Hip Ratio/BMI/Scale

Which are you most concerned about? I hate seeing how heavy I am on the scale compared to 10 years ago. And no matter how much I work out lately, that number barely moves (unless it is around a special occasion and then it likes to move up!!).

So I really hate going by the scale because it doesn't show my progress, but yet that is what bothers me the most and what I am concerned with the most. For some reason, I am just obsessed with the scale.

I am in the healthy range of my BMI, but I always fluctuate on the high end of it, and that annoys me.

I have an excellent/low risk waist to hip ratio. I have a pear body shape. I think you are supposed to be under .80 and mine said .66. But when I measured my waist it was 1.5 full inches larger than it used to be!! BLAH...

All these ways to track your weight and health bother me. But since I am so unsatisfied with them, minus waist to hip ratio... I guess it does encourage me to keep going but at the same time sometimes it makes me feel angry and defeated.

I feel like all that should matter is how you feel and the activities you are able to do with your body. But DH likes to go by appearances only and I don't have the money to dress/have professionals make me look like a celebrity. I am very short and it is hard to find clothes that flatter my body type.

Which tool or measurement do you go by most?

Re: Waist to Hip Ratio/BMI/Scale

I go by how my clothes fit, and my appearance in photos.

My BMI is fine, my weight fluctuates sometimes even when I'm doing everything right, and the waist:hip ratio may be a good guideline, but some people are built curvier than others and naturally have bigger or narrower hips, so it's not a be-all end-all.

But I can tell when my pants are tight or loose. And I always see it much more clearly in photos than in the mirror when I look good, or not so good. The scale doesn't always tell the whole story!

Occassionally I will take measurements with a tape measure...It depends on my fitness goals.

Re: Waist to Hip Ratio/BMI/Scale

I really pay attention to the scale...sometimes too much.

But it also matetrs to me how my clothes fit and look. I dont take my measurements too often so I just go by how they feel.

I'm not too keen on the waist to hip ratio thing...some people have very different bodies than others.

Divide your waist size by your hip size. (Mine is 25.5 divided by 36). My waist to hip ratio is .70. Under .80 is supposed to be the healthiest or most fit..something like that. I just read about it in a magazine last week.
