I'm a medical mystery
My dr took my blood after she told me I was miscarrying and my numbers went from 304 to in the 1000s. She took them again yesterday and they're at 3109. She's perplexed and has no idea what is going on. She asked other doctors in her medical practice and no one understands it either. I'd be excited about this but I had a sonogram done yesterday and all pictures taken indicated signs of a miscarriage. I don't want to get my hopes up but they're up a teensy bit.

I don't know if this was the sign of a miscarriage but the sac was irregular. There were 2 hematomas on each side of the uterus and they think the sac was starting to detach from the uterus. My dr is calling the dr at the radiology office to take a look and give his opinion.

 I had a subchocionic hematoma that caused both sacs to detach. 
I would say if it hasn't happened yet, it doesn't mean it's going to ...... I'd DEFINITELY ask questions about preventative measures. You should ask if you should be on blood thinners!!

im pretty sure my subchorionic hematoma caused my m/c also... buti know people that dont have any problems at all...
when is your next appointment?

I don't have one. She wants to discuss the results with the doctor at the radiology office where I had my sonogram done. She said she'll most likely take more blood and order another sonogram either this week or next week.

Aww so sorry again to hear this
What is the latest?
Also I think I explained this but a hematoma sometimes does not cause the miscarriage but is a result of a miscarriage. i.e. the placenta tears away bc your body realized something was wrong and then a bleed happens or a hematoma. This happens alot with miscarriages but again did not cause the miscarriage. So blood thinners are not always needed (as per my dr.)

yes, that's what the dr told me as well, the hematoma probably formed because of the miscarriage, not the other way around.

thank you. According to my dr, her gut feeling is that this is another genetic abnormality. I think they should start calling this a genetic normality since it's more common that I thought it was. In either case, according to my obgyn, it's not considered a problem until I've had 3 miscarriages. While I don't want to sit around and wait for a 3rd miscarriage I do believe her when she said that RE testing is invasive and requires a lot of blood which I don't do well with. She doesn't feel that it's worth putting me through that when we're not sure that there is anything wrong with me to begin with and I sort of agree that I don't want to go through the testing until it is necessary, which it hopefully isn't.

that makes sense. I guess at first it seemed like your gyn wasn't doing enough, or like you should have another sono sooner than maybe two weeks... but it's about what you are more comfortable with, so if it's too early to go the RE route and you trust your doctor...
is there still a chance that it's not another m/c or no because of the irregular sac? How far along are you?

There's a very, very small chance but both the dr at the radiology office and my obgyn said their instincts are this is not a viable pregnancy. My numbers are still increasing but not as much as they should. They took blood again last friday and the hcg jumped to somewhere in the 7000s. There was a very weak fetal pole. I'm still not hopeful

I can give you the low down on the blood testing the RE does, it is not so bad. I WOULD def do it, it will give you peice of mind. I had bloodwork done 3x and had a bunch of sonos during different points of the month. 2 of the bloodworks were really simple, they did them right in the office and it was 1 tube each time. Then the third was also one big test that I had to go to Quest for and it was 6-8 tubes of blood....sort of a lot but I stuck it out and it wasnt so bad afterall. Based on your history there may be more tests than I got, but hard to tell until you go.
I still would def look into it hun! Can't hurt right?

My Dr. said that if my numbers were high but there was no sac it could be due to remaining tissue developing even though there is no baby... I hope this is not the case for you though.

It's different, I never started bleeding. The sac is there but it's abnormally shaped. I'm very sorry for your loss

Thanks for the info. I'll def bring it up to my dr. Before I spoke to her I was all gung ho to see a RE and then she talked me out of i and I trust her but I do want that peace of mind. Though I'll be super ****** (and of course relieved at the same time) if they take all that blood and then find nothing wrong with me.
