Update! Requesting a Sono before a D&C
UPdate! So I had the sone today and no change so they proceeded with the d&c. Although they had a lot of trouble with my veins and getting my I.V in etc everything else went smoothly. I was so relieved to wake up and that everything had gone okay and that I could go home to my family. Physically I feel okay - not a lot of bleeding. Emotionally I am not so good but I guess thats to be expected for awhile. Many hugs and thanks to you all for listening and offering advice over the past few days.
-----------------------------------------------------
Did anyone request a final sono before their d&C or were you 100% happy the sono that gave you the bad news was correct?
I am so torn...the doc did say the baby was only measuring 7.5 weeks and there was no heartbeat but the wishful part of my brain is saying "what if she got it wrong and I am just going to power ahead with the d&c and what if?" and the rational side of my brain is saying "it is what it is, the results are there, she knew what she was looking at "
I still cannot accept it and I am riding a huge wave of emotions all day today;
8.30am - Cheeful happy face dropping my 5 year to school, she doesn't know and neither does anyone at the school
8.45am - driving home from school bawling my eyes out
9.15am - rational conversation with my husband about what is going to happen the next few days
9.30am - hysterical telephone conversation with my sister
10am - tearful telephone conversation with the doctors office as I call to set up my surgery
11.15 am - happy jolly nothing is wrong with me face as I collect my dd from school
2.47 pm - crying onto my laptop thinking "why did it happen to me"
I am exhausted
PLUS I now have to get back into happy mode to take my daughter to an after school activity and finish up my work day.
Thanks for listening, I just need to vent.

Re: Requesting a Sono before a D&C
mine wasnt a missed m/c it was an incomplete natural m/c so there was no need for an additional sono... but i would request one if i were you...
and what you posted is very familiar... its very exhausting to go through a m/c...

I'm so sorry you're going through this. I think you should request a sono because you really want to.

Request one, for your peace of mind. You do not want to carry around the "what if's" for the rest of your life.
What you are feeling is completely normal BTW!

Re: Requesting a Sono before a D&C
For the loss of my son, we had a second opinion. For the loss of my triplets, we didn't get a second sono, but my RE looked on the sono for a loooooooooooooong time and it was pretty clear there was no heartbeat. From what I could see on the screen too, there was no movement. I'm confident he was right.

Re: Requesting a Sono before a D&C
I requested one before my D&C. I had it done at hospital an hour before the procedure. It was piece of mind for me even though I knew it was me just hoping and praying the sonographer was wrong. I would request one if I was you.
*peace of mind

Re: Requesting a Sono before a D&C
I didn't because I was cramping and had some spotting -- went to the Dr and during the sono we didn't see the HB --- nothing.
I knew when she kept looking / moving and not saying anything that my pregnancy was over.
I was lucky that I was able to have the D&C 4 hours after this appt...

Re: Requesting a Sono before a D&C
I did not either. Abdominal and vaginal sono at 9 weeks showed no heartbeat and no movement. It was like looking at a still picture. The baby already started shrinking and it just didn't look right for 9 weeks. We previously saw a heartbeat at 6 weeks. We both kind of knew it was over (DH was with me) without them even having to say it. It was enough to see once, I didn't want to see it again It's an image/ memory I wish I could forget.
I am so sorry

Re: Requesting a Sono before a D&C
i had a silent miscarriage and requested a sono right before my D&C (one week after I found out) because in the back of my mind i wasn't convinced that my dates were right and felt that the baby just needed more time to grow. unfortunately we never ended up seeing a heartbeat but the second sono def gave me peace of mind, as well as having the tissues analyzed and finding out it was a genetic issue and nothing with my body that caused the mc.

Re: Requesting a Sono before a D&C
after not seeing the heartbeat, my doctor confirmed my missed miscarriage with bloodwork...my numbers were going down and I felt confident that the D & C was necessary.
