If family watches your pet when you go away
Do you give them something? A gift card? Money? Take them out to dinner? A really nice souvenier from your trip?
BIL & SIL are watching our dog for a week, (they offered) I was thinking of getting them something from where we're going like a necklace for her and a bottle of liquor or something along those lines for him. Or a gift certificate for dinner? Whenever my mom or MIL watches the dog we dont do anything for them because we help them out too whenever they go away, this one is new for us though.
We also could offer to watch their dog when they go away in July but we dont have a yard like they do so I'd feel a little bad for the dog staying cooped up for a week.

My mom will feed our 2 cats and change the litter if we are gone for more than a few days. we always pick her up something from the place we have visted.

Re: If family watches your pet when you go away
I always get souvenirs for my family when we go away, not in return for anything. When we go away, we usually give my parents one dog and then keep the other dog at our house and have my friend stay at the house and watch the dog. We only did it that way because the younger dog was unruly and my friend was afraid of walking her on the leash. Now, we'll probably let her watch them both. We usually give her maybe $50 for the trouble of watching them and then a little extra cash just in case they run out of food or something. Since she doesn't live alone, it's a kind of treat for her to stay at our house anyway so it's a mutually beneficial thing.
I've never given my parents anything for watching the dog, but DH has slipped my brother and sister maybe $20 each to do the walking/feeding themselves and not leave the burden on my parents.

My dog stays with my mom when I go on vacation and I usually give her a gc to stop & shop or a place that I know she can use

My parents watch my dog and my brother and his wife take our bird. I usually make a really nice dinner for everyone when we get back. We bring back little things for them too but I would do that regardless of them taking care of my animals.

Re: If family watches your pet when you go away
It depends. If I know I am going to be watching my sisters cat when she is away, usually a thank you and a small souvenior, it really depends, I have also done a gift card to a restaurant or a piece of jewelry, and a small souvenior with that for BIL and niece if I am away for more then a week. HTH

My Mom watches my brood when we go away - and we will always take her to dinner before & after the vacation. We do also bring a little something home for her.
I have a friend that will watch my cats when we take a road trip (and bring the dogs with us). Usually we'll bring home a little something for a 'thank you'.

Re: If family watches your pet when you go away
Thanks everyone, pretty much everyone was along the lines of what I was thinking. Neither of our families buy sourveniers for anyone except for the nieces and nephews so I think we'll get them something nice from where we're going.
