Question for those who need referrals
Just found out that I need a referral for some testing. I don't exactly have a primary care physician at this point so I'm lost for what to do. Do I need to have seen the doctor within the last year in order to get this referral?

probably.....I used to work for a Specialist so many people needed referrals...we'd call to remind them and if they needed a referral and weren't seen by their Primary, the patients would most likely need to be seen there first in order to get the referral...call your most recent Primary and see if the receptionist will do it for you (electronically) HTH, sorry if it doesn't

Can't the doctor that ordered the tests get the referral for you?

Most likely.
DH just went through this because our insurance plan requires referrals.
It wasn't bad. We found a really thorough PCP upon a recommendation, and his office staff sent all the referrals the next day.
It's always good to have a PCP identified because you never know when you are going to need to see them.
It sometimes takes a few days to be seen for an appt too so that's something to keep in mind ;).
For anyone in the Massapequa area, I highly recommend Dr. Levitt.
