Who played "The Joker" better.....
DH and I got into a discussion tonight about who played the character of the Joker in Batman movies better.....
So who do you think, Jack Nicholson or Heath Ledger?

Hard to say, because they were two different characters. Jack's Joker was nothing like Heath's Joker because the movies had different tones. Jack's had a little of that comic book feel... While Heath's didn't.
It's been rumored that in part, Heath committed suicide due to that particular role. I couldn't imagine getting in a role that deeply.

This. Heath took it to a whole other level. JN was a good Joker too but there was something about Heath in that role that is unsurpassable IMO. Def died way too young

you can't compare the two.
totally different style movies with characters intended to be totally different.
a better question would be who was a better joke- jack or cesar romero who played the joker on the tv show.
but even those jokers were written differently.

For me it is a tie
Each movie is TOTALLY different.
The 1989 Batman was more comicbook like. And for that movie Jack Nicholasen was amazing. His classic joker laugh....is now iconic
The New batman was VERY sinister. Heath is sick and crazed. The new batmans are totally different from the late 80's to early 90's versions
So to me I give it a tie
Both were awesome for the type of movie they were in

I feel like Heath got into his character more... I didn't see him in that movie, only the joker. With Jack, he was still... Jack. It's so sad too because he really paid a heavy price

Heath. Though I never would've thought anyone could've been a better joker before the movie came out- especially not Heath Ledger. I guess I always thought of him as a pretty boy. I ate my words.

True to the role of the "Joker" Jack wins.
By the time Heath played the Joker in the Batman movies the context of the movie got darker and darker. It was no longer a comic book movie.
Heath played a great Joker, but the roles were so different.
I think Jack's Joke is iconic. Sad that Heath is no longer with us.

My thoughts exactly. The Batman movie series prior to Christian Bale's versions were more cartoonish and kid-friendly. I'm not saying that Jack Nicholson couldn't have done as good a job as Heath Ledger, but they were completely different takes on the same character.

I also had heard that Jack had warned Heath prior to Heath doing the film to be careful with the charachter because he could easily fall into a very dark place becasue the character is so dark.
